Did you know the first book of photographs was a self-published collection of botanical Cyanotype prints by photographer and artist Anna Atkins in 1843?

Cyanotype printing is a technique that uses UV light exposure and a simple chemical process to create striking blue photographic images.

Anna used the process to document different species of British algae. The prints offered enough detail to distinguish between species - and they are incredibly beautiful! Prior to her work, botanical specimens were drawn exclusively by hand.

Come to our 2026 Annual Meeting this Saturday, June 27th, to try your hand at cyanotype printing! We will provide all the supplies, but of course you can bring your own botanical samples if you’d like 💙🌿

Join Friends of Tampa Bay Aquatic Preserves for our 2026 annual meeting! Eat, drink, and chat with your fellow aquatic preserve pals, plus:
• Hear annual updates from the FTBAP board
• Participate in director elections (members only)
• Try your hand at creating a cyanotype print using collected algae and native plants 🌱 👨‍🎨

Light snacks will be provided, drinks and food will be available for purchase.

Join FTBAP, St. Pete Eco Club, and Stewards of our Urban Lakes (SOUL) for a cleanup at Crescent Lake! Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist with lake debris removal, neighborhood litter and debris pickup, invasive vegetation removal, native plant installation, and water sample collection.

Happy World Ocean Day 2026 🌊 Thank you to everyone who came out to the screening of The Hidden Gulf at last Friday and made the evening so special 🥹 It was inspiring to see so many faces eager to learn about our oceans and how they can play a part in protecting these precious resources. Thank you all for participating in our community discussion and art project 🩵🌎🐋

A beautiful day out on island NCH-13 in North Clearwater Harbor with our amazing volunteers 🤩🏝️

We spent the day cleaning up an interpretive trail, picking up marine debris, and removing some old sign posts. Come join us next time!

Tampa Bay is so lucky to have so many incredible organizations focused on studying and protecting our environment.

We will be helping TBAP staff with their booth at the Florida Birding & Nature Festival and Safety Harbor Third Friday.

Then, we will be tabling at some rad Earth Day parties! Come dance, make friends, and get involved in protecting our aquatic preserves.
