“There was a time I had three jobs. And I know there's other teachers who also have to get another job to get by every month.”

You shouldn’t need to work overtime just to make ends meet, but that’s the reality right now for too many people across the Coachella Valley.

Stories like this are why our coalition set a goal to create 10K new affordable homes by 2028.

The people who keep the Coachella Valley up and running deserve to be able to afford to live here. ☀️

Did you know RIGHT NOW thousands of affordable homes are ready for construction across CA but they’re stuck in limbo because they don’t have the money to get started?

Believe it or not, this happens A LOT. Affordable housing is notoriously hard to fund, which means people and families are left waiting.

That’s why we’re so excited to support Proposition 1 (Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act) to fast-track vital housing statewide.

Learn more at the link in the comments and be sure to VOTE YES on Prop 1 in November!

✅ And big ideas you’ve been dying to try

☀️ In 2018 the Lift to Rise coalition announced a goal to create 10,000 new affordable homes in the Coachella Valley by 2028.

Now we're on track to reach the finish line—and our 2026-2028 Action Plan lays out exactly how we’re going to get there!

Just like everything else we do, creating the Action Plan was a team effort across coalition members, organizational partners, community members, political officials, and everyone in between 🤝

Some brought personal stories of housing instability and homelessness. Others brought local research, policy expertise, and years of experience working in the region.

Together, those perspectives helped us build a plan that reflects what our communities need and the evidence-backed solutions that'll help us make it happen 💪

What does it take to defy the odds and create 10K new affordable homes in 10 years?

☀️A clear vision
☀️A strong plan
☀️A great team

And a few other things too, but that’s a great place to start.

🙌 Our first regional This Ought to Be a Law event was amazing!

It was great getting to see our CBC members connect with fellow RUN members as we gear up to advocate for Prop 1 (more on that soon!)

In case you didn’t know:

➡️ Lift to Rise’s CBC initiative trains Coachella Valley residents to organize and advocate for affordable housing in their communities.

➡️ And Housing California's Resident United Network (RUN) connects resident leaders across California to advance affordable housing, renter protection, and homelessness prevention.

Real change happens when residents help shape the solutions that will impact their communities.

That’s why we’re honored to help train up resident leaders across the region, and we’re looking forward to creating even more ways for CBC members to move from local organizing to statewide collaboration and collective action 💪
