Weather Delay!

Today, ALEA 24 was forced to make an unexpected stop at Headland Municipal Airport in Headland, AL, to wait out a line of severe weather. As the rain moved in, Airport Manager Josh Moore and the airport staff immediately stepped in, helping our crew quickly secure a door-less aircraft before a heavy downpour arrived.

While the storm passed, the crew was welcomed into a cozy, well-equipped FBO with all the amenities a pilot could ask for and was even offered a courtesy car in case the weather resulted in an extended stay.

We want to extend our sincere appreciation to Josh Moore and the entire staff at Headland Municipal Airport for their outstanding professionalism, hospitality, and willingness to help fellow aviators. It's this kind of dedication that makes the aviation community truly exceptional.

If you're a pilot looking for a great place to make a quick stop in South Alabama, Headland Municipal Airport's FBO is open 24/7, offering a welcoming atmosphere, excellent amenities, and top-notch service.

Thank you again to the entire Headland Municipal Airport team for taking such great care of the ALEA 24 crew today. Safe flying!

On Saturday, WASP was proud to support a large car show and family event in Gordon with ALEA 24 providing high-altitude aerial surveillance after dark, when it becomes much more difficult for ground units to maintain visibility over large crowds and quickly identify potential issues. Despite being surrounded by summer thunderstorms and rain, our volunteer crew remained on station, providing an extra layer of safety and situational awareness throughout the evening.

A special shout-out to Chief Cain, with the assistance of the Houston County Sheriff's Office, for the thoughtful planning and coordination that helped ensure the safety of everyone in attendance. Thanks to the teamwork of all involved, the event was safe, successful, and enjoyed by the entire community.

Kicking Off the 2026 SRT Golf Classic with a Bang!

The Wiregrass Aviation Support Program (WASP) was proud to support our partners at the Dothan Police Department as they kicked off the 2026 SRT Golf Classic at Dothan National Golf Club.
Before the first ball was ever teed up, participants and spectators were treated to a memorable start as WASP helped launch the event in a way that only aviation can, bringing a little excitement from above and helping start the day with a bang. Literally. Events like the SRT Golf Classic are more than just a day on the course. They help support the men and women who train and stand ready to respond during critical incidents throughout our community. We are honored to work alongside the Dothan Police Department and their SRT to support the vital mission they carry out every day. A special thank you to everyone who participated, sponsored, volunteered, and helped make this year's tournament a success. Strong partnerships and community support continue to make a difference across the Wiregrass. WASP is proud to stand beside our law enforcement partners both on the ground and in the air.

When most of the Wiregrass is asleep, our volunteer flight crews are still in the air, watching over our communities and standing ready to assist local law enforcement at a moment's notice. This video offers a glimpse into one of the less visible parts of aerial law enforcement operations: nighttime refueling. To minimize downtime and remain available for emergency calls, our crews often have to quickly and safely refuel their aircraft in the middle of the night without the support of a full ground crew. While it may look routine, refueling a helicopter in darkness comes with its own set of hazards. Spinning rotor blades, reduced visibility, moving aircraft components, and the handling of jet fuel all create an environment where attention to detail and strict safety procedures are critical. Every step is performed with care to ensure the aircraft is ready to return to service as quickly as possible. These moments rarely make the headlines, but they are an important part of what keeps our aircraft mission-ready. Whether supporting a search for a missing person, assisting officers on the ground, or responding to a critical incident, every minute saved on the ground can make a difference.

We're proud of the dedication and professionalism shown by our volunteer pilots, tactical flight officers, and support personnel who work through the night to help keep the citizens and law enforcement agencies of the Wiregrass safe.

When the call comes, we're ready.

Your Experience Matters.

Whether you’re still turning wrenches every day or enjoying retirement, the knowledge and skills you’ve built over the years are valuable and they can help keep aircraft mission-ready for the communities we serve. The Wiregrass Aviation Support Program is looking for volunteer A&P mechanics who want to stay involved, give back, and be part of a team supporting law enforcement and first responders across the Wiregrass region.

If you have experience working on OH-58 aircraft or the Bell 407, that expertise would be especially appreciated. But most importantly, we’re looking for dependable folks who take pride in their craft and want to make a difference.

- Retired mechanics welcome
- Flexible volunteer opportunities
- Real impact supporting public safety

If you’re interested in lending a hand or getting back around the aircraft again, send us a message.
There’s always room on the crew for skilled hands.
