The Kiwanis Club of Ozark recently welcomed Adam Kamerer, founder of Step Up Ozark. Adam shared how this volunteer-led community initiative is focused on improving Ozark through beautification projects, community events, support for local organizations, and encouraging citizens to take an active role in their community.

Since launching in April, volunteers have collected more than 100 bags of trash, hosted community activities, partnered with local programs, and supported the Ozark Farmers Market. Step Up Ozark continues to make a positive impact by bringing people together to serve and strengthen our community.

Step Up Ozark will also be cooking and serving lunch to the kids at Reality Check this Saturday as well as replenishing the Blessing Box.

Thank you, Adam, for sharing your passion for Ozark and the difference Step Up Ozark is making!

If you’re interested in becoming involved, check out their page for more information.

The Kiwanis Club of Ozark was honored to hear from Merrill Scarbrough , Dale County’s 2026 Distinguished Young Woman representative.

Merrill shared how the Distinguished Young Women program has helped her grow in confidence, leadership, communication, and service. She also expressed her gratitude for organizations like Kiwanis that invest in young people and help prepare them for the future.

As she pursues her goals at the University of Alabama, Merrill reminded us that scholarships and community support do more than provide opportunities…they show young people that their community believes in them.

Thank you, Merrill, for representing Dale County so well, and thank you to everyone who supports the next generation of leaders!

Today, the Kiwanis Club of Ozark and the Ozark Rotary Club combined their meetings and were honored to hear an inspiring message about leadership, growth, education, and building communities where future generations can thrive.

Mayor Gordon Stone of Pike Road, AL shared how prosperous communities are built through strong fundamentals: having a vision, protecting quality of life, investing in education, building partnerships, and believing in the dreams of young people.

One message stood out clearly … communities grow when people choose to say “yes” to opportunity, hard work, and investing in the next generation.

Thank you for a powerful reminder that the future of our towns, schools, and children depends on the choices we make today.

The Kiwanis Club of Ozark is excited to welcome Steve Mclendon as the new head football coach at Carroll High School!

After an incredible professional football career, Coach Mclendon is returning to the Ozark area to pour his knowledge, leadership, and heart back into the community that helped shape him. What an amazing opportunity for these young athletes to learn from someone who has competed at the highest level while never forgetting where he came from.

We are proud to see one of our own come back home and invest in the next generation. Wishing Coach Mclendon and the Carroll High Eagles a successful and exciting season ahead!

The Kiwanis Club of Ozark was honored to hear from Lee Windham as he shared about the wonderful things happening at Reality Check, Inc. and the impact they are making in the lives of local teens by taking the time and meeting them right where they are in life at this moment.

Reality Check is currently helping sponsor around 154 teenagers, providing encouragement, support, and basic necessities many young people need to thrive.

With that many teens coming in after school and with Summer fast approaching, there is an ongoing need for donations such as food and snack items, clothing, personal hygiene products, and other essentials.

We are thankful for organizations like Reality Check that are making a real difference in the youth in our community.

If you would like to help support their mission, please know that every hour spent and every funding given matters and your act of kindness counts.

Today, the Kiwanis Club had the opportunity to visit The Club Teen Center at the Boys & Girls Club and we were truly impressed! From the activities to the atmosphere, it’s clear these students are being given a safe, encouraging place to learn, grow, and just be kids.

We loved seeing all the hard work, creativity, and positive energy happening there. It’s organizations like this that are shaping strong futures right here in our community.

Backpack for Kids – Final Packing of the School Year 🎒

Yesterday was our final Backpack for Kids packing for this school year, and what a blessing it has been. 💛

So many hands came together through the Kiwanis Club to make sure children in our community had food to take home each weekend. Week after week, bag after bag, it’s been an act of love, kindness, and faith in action.

There’s just something special about seeing a group of people show up with willing hearts, knowing that even the smallest effort can make a big difference in a child’s life.

As we wrap up this school year, we are so thankful—for the volunteers, the support, and the opportunity to serve.

Already looking forward to starting back up next year and continuing this mission.

The Kiwanis Club read books to HeadStart children and donated 51 books on April 7th. Each child gets to take home 5 different books by the end of the school year. Our volunteers love reading to the children! Rhonda Hayes, Tavia Ragan Scott, Sheila Waller and Diane Cook had a great time reading this month.
