Earlier this month, a couple of our groups dodged the rain and headed Downtown for a scavenger hunt around Owensboro—and judging by these photos, they had an absolute blast along the way. 📸☔

Outings like this are about much more than just getting out of the building. Scavenger hunts encourage exercise, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and socialization, all while allowing participants to explore and engage with the community around them in a fun and interactive way.

We also want to extend a thank you to the City of Owensboro for continuing to maintain such a beautiful and welcoming environment where people can live, work, and play. Having safe, clean, and accessible community spaces makes opportunities like these possible—and we’re grateful for it. 💙

One of our favorite annual outings made its return this month—a visit to The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer! 📰

This trip is always a highlight for our participants, and this year was no different.

During the visit, our group had the opportunity to explore the different departments within the OMI, get an up-close look at the printing press, and even step behind the mic for a fun mock podcast experience with Freddie Bourne and Don Wilkins—two familiar faces our participants always enjoy connecting with.

A huge thank you to the team at the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer for continuing to welcome our groups year after year and for creating such an engaging, interactive experience for the individuals we serve. Opportunities like this spark curiosity, build confidence, and create memories that last long after the visit is over. 💙

We've Got Talent Too! 2026 is almost here, and we cannot wait to celebrate the incredible talents, creativity, and personalities of individuals across our community! ❤️

Join us on Wednesday, June 10th from 10AM to 2PM as participants from TEN amazing organizations take the stage to showcase their talents in a day full of music, laughter, entertainment, and inspiration.

This event continues to grow year after year, and it is a beautiful reminder that talent comes in all forms and every individual deserves a chance to shine. ✨

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. ❤️🤍💙

This Memorial Day, we reflect with gratitude on their sacrifice and the freedoms we enjoy because of their courage. At The Opportunity Center of Owensboro, we are deeply thankful for their service and the legacy they leave behind.

This week, one of our groups made another trip to one of our participants’ favorite destinations—Lost River Cave in Bowling Green! 🌿🚤

From exploring the beautiful scenery to enjoying the relaxing boat tour experience, the day was full of adventure, conversation, and great memories. The group also made a stop at Chaney’s Dairy Barn for a quick bite to eat, making the outing even sweeter. 🍦

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Lost River Cave for always being so welcoming, accommodating, and hospitable to our groups time and time again. Your kindness and continued support help create meaningful experiences that our participants truly look forward to.
