Your Minnesota VFW leadership team is in Kalamazoo, Michigan, October 16-18, for the 2026 VFW Big Ten Conference Annual Meeting. These Comrades serve as delegates to the Conference representing the Minnesota VFW and its members.

They are joined by VFW Big Ten Conference Chairman Curt Hermanson and Vice Chairman David Staehlin, both hailing from Minnesota, and the Minnesota VFW Auxiliary delegation led by Department President Jean Keogh.

The VFW supports many of the veteran, caregiver and survivor provisions Congress is considering in TCAVA.

Our objection is to Section 108, which would change how future claims for tinnitus and sleep apnea are rated to help pay for those provisions.

Veterans should not be used to balance the budget. Period.

Well, here we are. October 1.

Some claimed that VA was definitely going to change the ratings for tinnitus and sleep apnea by the end of the fiscal year so Congress might as well spend those “savings” on TCAVA.

The VFW said the timeline didn’t add up and that a 2022 proposal wasn’t guaranteed to become the final rule as written.

So about those “savings”…

Protect veterans’ earned benefits. Pass TCAVA without making future veterans foot the bill.

Discharge Petition No. 22 for H.R. 2102, the Major Richard Star Act, reached the 218 signatures needed to move forward.

One of our local VFW supporters has a big surplus of snap beans as well as a desire to raise some money for the Honor Flight program. So while supplies last, you can get a quart sized ziploc full of beans for a $5 donation at the post. Get them before they are gone!
