63 years ago today, a quarter million people filled the National Mall demanding jobs and freedom.
They came from every corner of this country, by bus, by car, on foot, carrying the belief that a democracy which works for some is no democracy at all. What happened that day changed what this nation understood to be possible.
We remember the organizers who spent months making it happen. We remember the people whose names were never recorded, who showed up anyway.
Today we honor them.
