That red float means one of us is under it.

Utah rule requires boats to stay 150 feet clear of a posted diver down flag. Easy to miss when you're pulling a tube, so here's the reminder.

Slow down, go wide, and wave. We'll wave back when we come up.

Here is the shirt our crew wears on the water.

UPF 50 sun protection. 90% viscose from bamboo, 10% spandex, ultra soft. Crew neck or hooded, both long sleeve. The back reads Protect Utah's Lakes.

$55 crew neck, $60 hooded. Proceeds fund our volunteer dive cleanups on Utah's lakes and reservoirs.

Three of us drove down to the Sand Hollow dive park outside St. George for a fun dive. Not a cleanup, just diving. We still kept our eyes on the bottom.

We came home with one food wrapper and some fishing line. That's it.

The divers who use this park pick up after themselves, and it shows. Thank you, whoever you are.

Jordanelle is a water bank first and a lake second. The Bureau of Reclamation says it was sized to provide storage through a six year drought. The boats and paddleboards sit on top of that job.

There's also a town under there. The Utah Division of State History says Keetley was covered by the rising water of Jordanelle Dam.

The Park Record came out on the boat with us at Deer Creek. Big thanks to Clara Hatcher for the story and Jonathan Herrera for the photos.

Same dive, Blake Welch and I brought up about 18 pounds from Rainbow Bay: paddles, fishing tackle, b**r cans, chunks of glass, chip bags, sunglasses and hats. Mike Swenson ran the boat and George Arthur worked the deck.

That bay is at about 58 pounds across two crew dives. Still not empty.

Deer Creek is a working reservoir first. It's part of the Provo River Project, which the Bureau of Reclamation says delivers water to 479,221 people, in cities including Salt Lake City, Provo, Orem, Lehi and Lindon.

Whatever sits on the bottom is part of that system. So we go get it.

Tibble Fork was our first cleanup dive. We logged 44 degrees there in May, which is why the drysuits.

You do not need a dive certification to help. Divers go in, shore crew stays dry. Both count.

Tibble Fork was our first cleanup dive. 44 degree water in May, and the crew still showed up.

Four of us dove the Rainbow Bay area of Deer Creek Reservoir on September 12 and went looking for trash.

We came up with an old boat ladder, a paddle, a Bluetooth speaker, fishing poles, b**r cans and one golf ball. About 40 pounds by our estimate.

We only covered one small patch. That bay has a lot more on the bottom.

Crew dive, certified volunteers on our own time. Thanks to Tony Nitrox, Blake Welch and Cami Tucker of Deepwater Conservation, and to XS Scuba for the bags.
