A Note From Ivan:

Coming back from a road trip through the Redwoods, I realized there’s been an underlying tension brewing in me for a while. That classic feeling of spreading yourself too thin, like you’re competing against yourself for your own energy and attention.

I’ve been framing all of this as a competition with myself. Against my own schedule, my own itinerary, my own bar for what a ā€œmaximizedā€ life should look like.

But the root of the word compete literally means ā€œto strive together.ā€ Not against. With.

So maybe the tension was never a competition at all—but just me, forgetting I was allowed to be on my own side.

That reframe is what I keep coming back to: the compass was invented before the clock. Direction before time.

If this isn’t a race against myself, then pace stops being the thing that matters. Even when I’m spread thin, I can trust I’m pointed the right way.

For now, that’s enough for me.

— Ivan

Our July speaker is Ricky! 🌿

This month, we’re exploring Competition through a lens you might not expect: nature.

In his talk, Competition in Nature: Lessons on Growth, Resilience, and Community, Ricky invites us to rethink what competition actually means. Instead of seeing it as winners and losers, he’ll explore how competition can help us grow, build resilience, and strengthen the communities around us.

Will our competition serve only ourselves—or will it strengthen the communities we’re a part of?

Join us Friday July 24th for coffee, community, and a cool conversation.

One of the best parts of CreativeMornings isn’t just the speaker on stage—it’s the people sitting in the audience.

This month, we’re kicking off a new series celebrating the incredible humans who make up our community. ✨Welcome to People of CreativeMorningsOC ✨

Meet Sai.

By day, he’s an urban planner. Outside of work, he’s a photographer, book designer, and storyteller currently creating a cookbook inspired by his late grandfather.

What began as a way to preserve family recipes has become a way to preserve something even more meaningful: the stories, humor, wisdom, and traditions shared around the dinner table.

ā€œRecipes can survive on scraps of paper, but the people behind them don’t always get the same chance.ā€

We’re so excited to follow his project!

Give Sai some love and follow along:

Most of us spend a lot of time trying to fit ourselves into a title.

Designer. Writer. Marketer. Founder. Artist.

But what if the most valuable thing about you is everything that doesn’t fit neatly on a LinkedIn profile?

This month’s talk explores the idea of an unfair advantage—the unique combination of experiences, interests, skills, and perspectives that you’re already curating in your life.

šŸ—“ļøJoin us this upcoming Friday June 26th. Doors 8:30AM , Talk 9:00AM.

Why did Ivan choose CURATE?

In his words, the most unique thing about any of us is our perspective.

This month’s theme is all about the experiences, interests, and stories we collect along the way—and how they shape the way we see the world.

If that sounds a little abstract, don’t worry. David Kyle Choe is joining us on June 26 to help us make sense of it all.
