Highfields, Inc. - Michigan To provide opportunities to children, youth and families to become more responsible for their own lives and to strengthen their relationships with others.

https://www.highfields.org Highfields is a nationally accredited not-for-profit organization providing a wide array of counseling services for children and families. Highfields lives its mission through its services. While we've had a residential treatment center for boys for 55 years, most of our work is in families' homes or schools. Highfields provides services through three program areas: Home

-Based Services (families, children, and youth), Residential (boys 11-17), and Educational Services (children, youth, families, and other individuals). In 2016, more than 8,000 children, youth, families, and participants were served.

DID YOU KNOW? . . . Gratitude transforms the way we perceive the world, acting as a lens that highlights the beauty in the seemingly mundane aspects of life.

When we practice gratitude, we begin to appreciate the simple joys and everyday miracles that often go unnoticed. A warm cup of coffee in the morning, the sound of rain tapping on the window, or a heartfelt conversation with a loved one—these ordinary moments become extraordinary when viewed through the eyes of gratitude. This perspective not only enhances our appreciation for life but also fosters a deeper sense of contentment and happiness.

In a world that often emphasizes what we lack, gratitude shifts our focus to the abundance surrounding us, nurturing a mindset that sees beauty in every corner of our existence.

What are you thankful for today?

DID YOU KNOW? . . . . Pets improve mental health through a combination of biological, emotional, and social methods.

When you interact with a pet, especially dogs and cats, your body responds by reducing the harmful effects of cortisol, while at the same time, oxytocin levels begin to rise. These hormones play a significant part in your overall health and well-being.

If you have ever felt sad or lonely, having a pet helps stem the feeling of isolation and the absence of connectivity. Having a cat sit on your lap, or a dog greet you at the door means you're not alone. How many times have you hugged your pet when you've been sad or felt lonely? I know I have, and it helps!

Animal-assisted therapy is also becoming useful in the mental health world by helping children on the autism spectrum. A therapy dog will help children engage in their preferred method of communication. Verbal children tend to talk to the dog, while non-verbal children reach out for a physical connection.

There are so many ways pets can help us with our mental health. We would love to see pictures of your pets, and tell us how they have helped you!

In a world that can often feel divided by conflict, uncertainty, and inequality, friendship reminds us of the power of connection. It starts with something simple: caring about one another, showing up for each other, and believing that together we can make a difference.

As we celebrate the International Day of Friendship, we're especially grateful for friends like you. Your generosity, encouragement, and commitment to our mission help create positive change every day. Because of your support, we're able to build stronger communities, offer hope where it's needed most, and bring people together around a shared purpose.

Thank you for being a friend. Your partnership reminds us that meaningful change is built through trust, kindness, and the connections we share. Together, we're creating a more compassionate and connected world.

Back in June, 100 Women Who Care met to hear presentations from three nonprofit organizations, each hoping to be selected for funding. We were honored when Pat Brown, a longtime Highfields donor, nominated and presented Highfields, sharing our need for new furniture in our two residential homes. Thanks to her advocacy and the support of the group, Highfields was selected as the recipient of the funding!

This past Friday, Pat and several members of 100 Women Who Care visited our campus for a tour and officially presented our Residential Director, Tyler, with the award.

We are incredibly grateful for this investment in our residential program. The furniture in these homes has not been replaced in nearly 20 years, and this funding will allow us to create more comfortable, welcoming spaces for the youth we serve. We sincerely thank Pat and the members of 100 Women Who Care for making these much-needed upgrades possible.

A huge thank you to Jackson for generously donating their suite to our Golf Auction!

Tonight, some of our employees and a former board member had the opportunity to enjoy a Lansing Lugnuts game from the suite, and it was such a wonderful experience. We’re incredibly grateful for partners like Jackson whose generosity helps support our mission while creating memorable moments for our team and supporters.

✨ Motivation Monday ✨

Every new week brings a new opportunity to make a difference.

Whether it's offering a helping hand, encouraging someone who is struggling, or taking one small step toward a personal goal, positive change starts with simple actions. Remember, progress isn't always about giant leaps—it's about showing up, staying committed, and moving forward one day at a time.

At Highfields, we're inspired every day by the resilience, strength, and determination of the individuals, families, and communities we serve.

🌱 This week, challenge yourself to focus on what you can do—not what you can't. Small steps lead to meaningful change.
