Hello Little Farm

Dear little farm, do you ever wonder what will happen when you are no longer here?

On the days when the trees are still and the skies murky with an uncertain haze it leads me to a place of deep thought. Today was one of those days. Perhaps it was the sky or maybe the mere act of reading a passage from my book “Saving Olivia “ .

While cleaning out the laundry room I came across a copy that had fallen beside the washer. I can't believe it's been six years since I put Olivia's story into words. I flipped through the pages reading several passages and stopped in my tracks when I came across a passage I had written in the Gratitude section of my book. It made me realize that not much has changed. My words back then are the same thoughts that play over and over in my head today.

“ Life is fleeting, it turns like a river that ebbs and flows and nothing can stop its rush to a final spill into deeper waters that erase its time and existence. My Wonder leads me to ask; will my time on this river be worth the trip and what will be left of my canoe when I am no longer riding the current?”

It seems that many of my writings are about time. I continue to be amazed at the speed in which it passes.

Although Fanciful Farm began in 2017 and “Saving Olivia” was published in 2020, it seems like this farm and this story has been a part of me forever. It is now 2026 and although many faces have changed so much has stayed the same.

When you own ducks there is no such thing as clean water dishes… this was changed literally 5 minutes earlier. 🤦‍♀️

The farm had some fairies dancing under the moonlight recently.

Happy 100th bday (in people year’s) to Miss Hattie!
She is the oldest chicken we have on the farm and a part of the OG. Hattie is blind in one eye, spends much of her time as of lately napping on the roost and isn’t really into free ranging like she used to. Hattie was known to be a sassy girl who was pretty bossy to the others but has mellowed and softened as she’s aged.

We don’t know how much longer we will have her with us so let’s wish her a happy bday!

Finding Magic in the Ordinary: A Lesson in Slow Living,,,

Sit down and grab a cuppa, because this is a bit of a novel!
Things have been quiet around here lately—or rather, I’ve been quiet. Over this past year, I’ve intentionally stepped away from the noise of social media just to reclaim a bit of slow, purposeful living.

It is so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of going through the motions, letting the days fly by without ever truly digesting them. We get consumed by climbing the next mountain or documenting every milestone for an audience. In the process, we lose the best parts: the quiet, everyday conversations and the simple time spent with the people and animals we care about.

Lately, I’ve felt like life is moving at a rapid, uncontrollable speed, and I'm still figuring out how to force it to slow down. The people and animals in my life are growing older. I am, too.
Over the past few years, we have buried many of our beloved pets and rescues. Our little farm cemetery is growing. It isn’t exactly what I envisioned when I first started this rescue journey, but it has taught me a hard truth: time is a thief we cannot stop, so we have no choice but to find a way to cherish what remains.

That heavy realization is exactly what led me outside this morning. As I walked around the house and the farm, I purposefully looked for little snapshots—moments to truly savor.
I started the day simply enjoying the quiet company of my housemates but as the sun began to fill in the cracks of my yard I was drawn outside.

While walking through the woods, I stumbled into a beautiful fairy ring of tiny, colorful mushrooms poking their heads up through the forest floor. It felt entirely magical. I ended my walk by picking a few swamp marigolds and placing them in a little beaker on the table.
Right now, they are sitting there in front of me—a beautiful, bright reminder of a slow morning successfully savored.

I'd love to hear from you: How do you force yourself to slow down when life feels like it's moving too fast? What "snapshots" did you notice in your world today? Let me know in the comments below.
