Please join us in welcoming Jackson Walls, Youth Programs Facilitator, to the Center for Holistic Development!

Jackson was inspired to join CHD because of our focus on youth mental health and our commitment to making services accessible to a diverse community. He brings three years of experience working with the Upward Bound program and is excited to use that experience to connect with, encourage, and support the young people and families CHD serves.

For Jackson, serving the Omaha community means speaking life and hope into people who may be facing difficult circumstances—and putting actions behind those words. He especially enjoys meeting people from different walks of life and finding connection through shared and diverse experiences.

✨ A little about him outside of work:
Music is a big part of Jackson’s life. He enjoys playing and creating music with friends and at his church. He also enjoys journaling, has a hidden talent for writing poetry, and was once a member of Victory Boxing Club in South Omaha! 🥊🎶

One scripture that guides him is Jeremiah 29:11, reminding him of hope, purpose, and what lies ahead.

We’re excited to see the passion, creativity, and experience he brings to CHD’s youth programs.

We’re glad to have you on the CHD team, Jackson! 💜

💜September is Su***de Prevention Month 🩵

At CHD, we believe in the power of connection, compassion, and reminding one another that no one has to face difficult moments alone.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing messages of hope, helpful resources, ways to support the people around us, and reminders to take care of our own mental and emotional well-being.

Sometimes, one conversation can make a difference. Check on your people. Listen without judgment. Remind them that they matter. 💜

If you or someone you know is struggling or experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to connect with the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Support is available 24/7.

✨ You matter. Your story matters. There is hope.

🎒💜 Back-to-School Season May Be Ending, But the Check-Ins Shouldn't.

As August comes to a close and students begin settling into their new routines, let's remember that supporting mental wellness isn't just for the first few weeks of school.

KEEP CHECKING IN! 💜

Ask about more than grades.

💬 Ask about their friendships.
🧠 Ask about their stress.
😴 Ask if they're getting enough rest.
😊 Ask what they're enjoying.
🌱 Ask what's been difficult.
❤️ Ask what they need from you.

And when they answer — make space to really listen.

Sometimes a simple “How are you really doing?” can open the door to a conversation a young person has been waiting to have.

Let's continue creating homes, schools, and communities where young people know it's okay to talk about their mental health and ask for support.

👇 Before we close out August: What is ONE thing you want the young people in your life to know as they begin this school year?

Leave them some encouragement in the comments! 💜

🌿💜 Friday Mental Wellness Check-In

You made it through another week! Before jumping into the weekend, take a moment to check in with yourself.

Ask yourself:

🧠 How has my stress level been this week?
😴 Am I getting enough rest?
💬 Have I talked to someone I trust about how I'm feeling?
✨ What is one thing that went well this week?
🌱 What can I let go of before starting a new week?

Mental wellness doesn't always require a big change. Sometimes it starts with simply slowing down long enough to recognize what you need.

This weekend, give yourself permission to rest, recharge, have fun, and reset. 💜

👇 Let's end the week on a positive note: What's ONE good thing that happened to you this week? Big or small, share it in the comments!

🏠💜 Mental Wellness Starts at Home

As students settle into the school year, home can be an important place to rest, recharge, and feel supported.

Here are 5 simple ways parents and caregivers can support mental wellness during the school year:

⏰ Create consistent routines.
Predictability can make busy school days feel a little more manageable.

🌿 Make room for downtime.
Give kids and teens time to decompress before jumping straight into homework, chores, or activities.

😴 Prioritize sleep.
Consistent sleep routines can support mood, concentration, and overall well-being.

👂 Listen before trying to solve.
Sometimes young people aren't looking for an immediate solution — they just want to know someone is listening.

🌟 Celebrate effort, not just results.
Recognize growth, persistence, kindness, and courage — not only grades and achievements.

Small, consistent habits can make a BIG difference. 💜

👇 Parents & caregivers: What's one routine that helps your family have a smoother school week? Share it below — your idea might help another family!

✨ A Monday Reminder for Every Student 🎒💜

A new week means another opportunity to learn, grow, and try again.

As you head into the school week, remember:

📚 One grade does not define you.
💬 Asking for help is a strength.
🌱 Progress looks different for everyone.
🧠 Your mental health matters just as much as your grades.
💜 You don't have to have everything figured out.

School can come with pressure to get good grades, fit in, stay involved, and keep up with everything happening around you. It's okay to have hard days. It's okay to take a break. And it's okay to reach out when you need support.

This week, focus on progress — not perfection.

👇 Students, parents & educators: Drop a 💜 in the comments if you're choosing to give yourself (or your student!) a little extra grace this week.
