What a beautiful weekend of music, learning, laughter, and connection. From inspiring workshops and late-night jam sessions to unforgettable performances, the campus was filled with the sound and spirit of traditional music all weekend long.

A huge thank you to our incredible teaching artists — Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas, Maura Shawn Scanlin, and Conor Hearn — for sharing their talent, passion, and generosity with our community.

And thank YOU to every camper, musician, and concertgoer who helped make this weekend so special. Whether you came to play, listen, learn, dance, or simply soak it all in, we’re so grateful you were part of it.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined us for Scottish String Fling 2026 at The Ashokan Center!

From the first notes to the final ensemble, it was a weekend full of connection, creativity, and incredible music. Musicians of all levels came together to learn, listen, and grow—sharing tunes, building harmonies, and creating something truly special as a community.

A heartfelt thank you to our phenomenal teaching artists—Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas, Maura Shawn Scanlin, and Conor Hearn—for bringing their passion, expertise, and generosity to every workshop, session, and performance.

🌿 Planting for the future at Ashokan 🌸

This April, something meaningful took root across our campus…

With guidance from our Director of Ecological Landscapes, Del Orloske, community members, families, and students came together to plant native wildflowers—creating spaces that will support pollinators for years to come 🦋

During Earth Fest, even under gray skies and light rain, people showed up—hands in the soil, learning, planting, and growing together 💚

And the work didn’t stop there…

Later in the month, visiting students returned to continue the planting—carefully placing each new addition to what will become a thriving wildflower meadow 🌼

It’s a simple act, but a powerful one:
🌱 Native plants support ecosystems
🐝 Pollinators sustain biodiversity
🌍 And participation creates connection

“Plant them and we will all grow together.” ✨

In the weeks ahead, the work continues—and soon, the butterflies will arrive

A retired music educator with 30+ years of experience, Ray brings a deep love of performance, creativity, and connection to everything he does. From rock bands to ukulele festivals across the country, he’s known for helping players explore new techniques, expand their skills, and see the instrument in fresh, inspiring ways ✨

Recently returning from a cross-country tour with Lil’ Rev, Ray is ready to bring that same energy and experience to Ashokan

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to grow your playing, you’ll be in great hands 💫
