Leadership Cattaraugus’ mission is to grow a network of informed, active leaders who work collaboratively to build a better community. Bonaventure University.

Leadership Cattaraugus is designed to identify future leaders of the area and help them develop the skills they will need to work more effectively for the betterment of all the people in Cattaraugus county, fostering an impact on community development and quality of life for years to come. Leadership Cattaraugus was jointly launched in spring 2004 by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, Jam

estown Community College, The Rehabilitation Center, and St. Participants in Leadership Cattaraugus will commit to a 10-month schedule of monthly day-long sessions focusing on a wide range of topics. Participants will be expected to assist in the development of the sessions which will grow the individual’s overall awareness of the topic, the available resources, and his or her own leadership skills. Participants will have the opportunity to network with community leaders and a diverse group of developing leaders. These relationships will benefit Leadership Cattaraugus Alumni for years to come, both professionally and personally.

What makes this one powerful is how quietly practical it is — no buzzwords, just habits that change how people experience leadership:
•Listening is not a side task — it’s the main job. Scheduling time to truly listen signals respect, not interruption.
•Every conversation is a leadership moment. Even the quick hallway check-in can either build trust or erode it.
•Discomfort is where better leadership lives. The most important listening often happens when it would be easier to avoid the conversation.
•Input creates ownership. People are far more likely to support decisions they helped shape — even in small ways.

In short, the “playbook” isn’t about managing tasks better… it’s about managing attention better. Where leaders place their attention is where culture quietly grows roots
