NEOKC Renaissance

NEOKC Renaissance We equip Northeast OKC with capacity and access to opportunities that catalyze economic and community development from within.

Read our 2024-2025 Impact Report HERE: https://www.neokcr.org/post/rising-in-the-east-our-impact-our-people-our-path-forward. In 2014, an ad-hoc group of community stakeholders assembled to advocate for ethical redevelopment on OKC’s Eastside. Those community leaders formed a unified resource – NEOKC Renaissance – made by our community, for our community. Our focus is rooted in Northeast OKC, invi

ting our community to engage with one another to make the Eastside better for all. We do this by reimagining pathways to opportunities that support capacity building and uplift neighborhoods, developers, and local businesses. By prioritizing talent, investment, placekeeping, and programming, we equip our neighborhood with the resources and relationships to catalyze economic and community revitalization. Our Eastside. Our home. 🖤
This Black History Month, we’re honoring the people, places, and stories that continue to shape the heart of the Eastside. The legacy lives in our streets, our art, our businesses, and our collective memory; and it’s still being written every day.

We want to hear from you:

According to NEOKCR’s Executive Director, Dr. Quintin Hughes Sr., Rising in the East is about honoring our past, learning from our struggles, and building a bright future where the Eastside thrives again. It’s a movement that reminds us we have the power to shape our neighborhoods and create opportunities for everyone.

“Rising in the East” means moving together, not alone.

For our Senior Operations Director, Corey Winston, it’s about community collectivism—neighbors, founders, artists, families, and leaders working in alignment so we can rise to our full potential together.

“Rising in the East” means owning our narrative and shaping our future on our own terms.

In this moment, our Outreach and Development Director, Jewel McCorkle shares what the phrase represents to her: the power to tell our own stories, center lived experience as expertise, and define what progress and growth look like for our community, not having it defined for us.

This is what community-led development looks like.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is both a moment of remembrance and a call to action.

As the nation’s only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, today invites us to turn reflection into responsibility. Dr. King challenged us to move beyond “a day off” and instead embrace “a day on,” one rooted in service, civic engagement, and collective care.

At NEOKCR, we honor his legacy by continuing the work of building a prosperous future for our Eastside—one grounded in equality, justice, nonviolence, and opportunity for all.

May today remind us that lasting change is built through everyday acts of kindness and a shared commitment to one another.

Rayesha Bradley, our Capital Access Manager gives us her take on ‘Rising in the East’. RITE is about honoring who we’ve always been while intentionally building what comes next.

It’s reinvestment rooted in community.
Innovation shaped by lived experience.
Transformation that creates real opportunity.
And empowerment from within.

In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our office will be closed on Monday, January 18.

MLK Day is a day of reflection, service, and recommitment to justice, equity, and community care. We encourage you to take time to honor Dr. King’s legacy in ways that feel meaningful to you, whether through learning, volunteering, or showing up for your community.

We’ll reopen with regular hours on Tuesday.

Together, we continue the work.
