FOP Lodge 10 Launches First-Ever Scholarship For Worcester County Students

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 10 has announced the launch of its first college scholarship fund for local high school graduates. The program will award two scholarships of $500 each to graduating seniors who plan to continue their education.

The scholarship is open to students planning to attend a university, college, community college, or trade school. Applicants must live in Worcester County, Maryland, and have a minimum weighted GPA of 3.0.

FOP Lodge 10 Treasurer Anthony Calabrese announced the program with a statement about why the lodge created it.

"I am pleased to announce that FOP Lodge 10 has created, for the first time ever, a scholarship program dedicated to supporting local students in their pursuit of continuing education," Calabrese said. "We established this scholarship program as a way to thank our community for its continued support while also helping the next generation achieve future success."

To apply, students must submit a completed scholarship application and a written essay. The essay must be between 500 and 1,500 words and should explain the student's chosen major or trade and how finishing school will benefit them after graduation.

The deadline to apply is July 1, 2026. All applications and essays must be submitted through the online scholarship portal at https://form.jotform.com/FOPLodge10/scholarshipapplication.

If more than two students apply, a scholarship committee will review all submissions and choose the two winners. If two or fewer applications come in, the lodge treasurer will review them to confirm eligibility before awarding the funds.

Each scholarship will be paid directly to the student, with payment made to their school on their behalf. The award is non-renewable, meaning it is a one-time payment per recipient.

Calabrese added that the lodge hopes to build on this effort going forward.

"Our scholarship committee, membership, and executive board look forward to growing this program and expanding opportunities for students in the years ahead," he said.

Students or parents with questions can reach FOP Lodge 10 by email at [email protected].

Congratulations to Sgt Morgan and Sgt Lindsey.

Congratulations to Sgt Morgan and Sgt Lindsey.

The Ocean City Police Department is proud to announce that Sergeant Aaron Morgan and Sergeant Shawn Lindsey have successfully graduated from the prestigious School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC), hosted by Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety.

The 10-week program is widely recognized as one of the most academically rigorous leadership and management courses for mid- and upper-level law enforcement professionals. The curriculum prepares supervisors for senior command roles through intensive instruction in leadership principles, strategic planning, budgeting, human resources, employee relations, officer wellness, and contemporary policing practices. Participants are evaluated through examinations, research papers, projects, and a comprehensive staff study.

SPSC Class #632 was hosted by the Prince George’s County Police Department and included 30 law enforcement professionals representing agencies from across Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Sergeant Aaron Morgan brings more than two decades of law enforcement experience to the Ocean City Police Department. Since joining the department in 2006, he has served in the Patrol Division, Services Division, and Traffic Safety Unit. Throughout his career, Sgt. Morgan has held a range of specialized roles, including Drug Recognition Expert, Field Training Officer, Honor Guard member, Intoximeter Operator, and instructor. Prior to his service in Ocean City, he served with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., and in other law enforcement roles in Pennsylvania.

Sgt. Morgan holds a Bachelor of Arts from Waynesburg College and has completed numerous advanced leadership programs, including the FBI LEEDA’s Supervisor, Executive, and Command Leadership Institutes. His career has been marked by multiple awards recognizing his leadership, commitment to impaired driving enforcement, and dedication to public safety. He is guided by a professional philosophy centered on mentorship and on preparing the next generation of law enforcement leaders.

Sergeant Shawn Lindsey began his career with the Ocean City Police Department as a Seasonal Police Cadet and Seasonal Police Officer before being hired full-time in 2006. Throughout his career, he has served in all three divisions of the department, including seven years in Patrol as a Field Training Officer and seven years in the Criminal Investigation Division, where he was among the department’s first Special Enforcement Unit detectives.

Promoted to supervisor in 2020, Sgt. Lindsey currently serves as an instructor with the Fi****ms Training Unit, an Active Assailant Response instructor, and a member of the department’s Quick Response Team. He has received multiple honors throughout his career, including being named the American Legion Synepuxent Post #166 Police Officer of the Year in 2017. He is driven by a hands-on leadership approach and brings extensive tactical knowledge, which he actively shares to develop and prepare those around him.

Ocean City Police Chief Raymond J. Austin commended both sergeants for their accomplishment and commitment to professional growth.

"Sergeants Morgan and Lindsey have demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership, professionalism, and continued learning throughout their careers," said Chief Austin. "Graduating from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command is a significant achievement that reflects their dedication to serving our community at the highest level. We are proud of their accomplishment and confident they will continue to make a positive impact within our department and in the community we serve."

The Ocean City Police Department congratulates Sgt. Morgan and Sgt. Lindsey on this outstanding achievement and their continued dedication to excellence in law enforcement.

Several members of FOP Lodge 10, including FOP Lodge 10 Treasurer, recently attended the Pathways to Excellence Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the conference, attendees participated in a variety of valuable training sessions covering topics such as lodge administrative responsibilities, grievance handling, Robert’s Rules of Order, tax matters, financial management, and more.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the National Fraternal Order of Police for hosting this informative and well-organized event. The knowledge gained will directly support our continued commitment to serving our members and strengthening our lodge operations.

Thank you Home Depot for the generous donation of 50 Husky sledge hammers. Their donation will allow officers to have one in every police vehicle. They will be used for emergency door or window breaching in emergency situations such as active shooters/assault, domestic violence, medical and/or mental health emergencies.

“Giving Back and Taking Care of our Community is one of Home Depot’s Values.” Stated Darrin Fiorini. In addition, “Giving Back to OCPD our Local Law Enforcement that Protects and Serves our Community everyday is the single most important thing we can do!”
