Meet the Grower: Bai of BaoBai’s Harvest

BaoBai’s Harvest is truly a family operation. Bai farms alongside his mother, Bao. Together, they’ve turned years of gardening into a certified organic farm focused on growing fresh, nutritious food while caring for the land.

We’re proud to partner with Bai and support BaoBai’s Harvest through the Farm to Food Security Grant Program in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA).

Thank you, Bai and Bao, for growing food that helps nourish our shoppers and our community.

Parking lot construction starts today at our Maplewood location (1740 Van D**e Street, Maplewood)!

We’re still OPEN today (Sept. 3) and tomorrow (Sept. 4). Please enter from Van D**e Street and allow a little extra time to park and walk to the market. The sidewalk and market entrance will remain open. See Slide 2 for parking and entrance instructions.

Maplewood will be CLOSED Saturday, Sept. 5 for construction.

If you need groceries this weekend, our Oakdale market (8264 4th St N, Oakdale) will be open Saturday with extended hours from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. We’ll have lots of food and would love to see you there! 🍓

Reminder: All Open Cupboard locations and programs will also be closed Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day.

Ever wonder what happens to unsold produce at the St. Paul Farmers' Market? A lot of it makes its way to us! 🍅

Local farmers give us produce they weren’t able to sell. Our volunteers sort it, pack it, and load it onto pallets. Then our food rescue team brings it back to Open Cupboard, where it can be ready for shoppers as soon as the next day.

It’s a pretty incredible system — and we need volunteers to help keep it going.

If you can spare a couple of hours on a Sunday, join our Farmer’s Market Volunteer Team. Bring a friend or family member and make a morning of it!

🍓 Volunteer at the St. Paul Farmers’ Market or our Maplewood site

Yesterday, more than 280 volunteers, board members, and staff joined us for our annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic!

The hamburgers and hot dogs were flowing. We recognized our Golden Strawberry Award winners for their incredible dedication to Open Cupboard. We laughed, we caught up, and yes... we all sweated just a little bit. 😅

But mostly, we got to look around and appreciate just how many people choose to show up for this community. Open Cupboard simply wouldn’t be what it is without our volunteers, and getting so many of you together in one place was pretty special. 🍓

Open Cupboard has 575 volunteer shifts to fill each week, and we’re able to support thousands of shopping trips because of volunteers like you who show up for their community.

🌽 Now THAT’S a lot of corn!

Leisen Family Farm stopped by Open Cupboard several times this month to drop off locally grown sweet corn for our shoppers. (In one visit alone, they had 996 ears of corn - that's 83 dozen!)

We love seeing fresh, local food make its way from farms in our community to Open Cupboard’s markets.

The drive directly in front of our building will be under construction, but the sidewalk and market entrance will remain open. Please enter from Van D**e Street and allow a little extra time to park and walk to the market.
