Sowing4hope is a non-profit, urban farm where harvested fruits and vegetables provide healthy food supplies for the impoverished in the community. Working with established hunger relief organizations, our mission is to provide, free of charge, nutritious, organically grown fruits and vegetables to supplement the typical food staples given to local food pantries. Alongside the distribution of fresh produce to the food insecure, Sowing4hope will serve to provide education, training, and volunteer opportunities designed to empower others to do likewise in their local neighborhoods and communities.

A picture of a bag of frozen tomatoes? The story behind it... vine ripened, organic tomatoes harvested at the end of the season... added some extra attention by removing the core, then blanching them to remove the skin, then bagging and freezing them for future use. The bag shown here represents 60 pounds of frozen tomatoes donated to local business partner Hillside Coffee House, who in turn added more time and attention (and love), to make a large batch of tomato soup that is used to help the community through the event shared in the post below Thankful for owner Rose, and her heart for helping others :)

It's great to partner with a local business - supplying them with some organic tomatoes, that in turn are used to make delicious soup that helps our local community :)

This upcoming Sunday we’ve been asked to bring a soup to Empty Bowls Milwaukee! Every dollar spent goes directly to support local food pantries. Come see our booth, eat some delicious soup, and support a good cause

Yay, garlic planted along our rose bed! Saved the largest bulbs from July's harvest, for fall planting... gotta love a renewable crop :)

Up early to deliver several hundred pounds of butternut squash & pie pumpkins to Hunger Task Force farm. Was also able to make a final harvest of eggplant & peppers, etc that went to Bay View Food Pantry. Season winding down...

Spent the day clearing weeds from the asparagus bed... but also made time to harvest a few things (peppers and eggplants) still actively growing in our raised beds... Hopefully a couple more deliveries before the growing season ends :)

Up early to harvest some turnips, and take them to Hunger Task Force farm, along with some Hatch peppers picked last Friday...

Busy, full day on the Sowing4hope farm... pulled and harvested from over 40 hot pepper plants - clearing out the large areas in the "back forty". Produce will get split up and sent out to two different food pantries, and Hunger Task Force Farm. Then tilled all the areas, cast cover crop seeds all over, then tamped them into the soil with a large sod roller. Big tractor, garden tractor, and hand tools - all used to get the beds ready. Even had enough time to close out the evening with a quick mowing around the beds. Ready for the predicted weekend rains :)

A busy morning is just the start... before breakfast, harvested a bagful of fresh basil, and a small batch of spearmint, and the last few, large zucchini... delivered to our adopted, local small business, Hillside Coffee House. Ate a little something, then headed to the collard green beds... a wonderful harvest there and delivered all those organic yummies to the Hunger Task Force Farm. In order to plant a cover crop by Friday morning (before the weekend rains come), next couple days will be spent emptying out what remains on the "back forty"... tomatoes, peppers, butternut squash...

Same as last week, another batch of eggplant, tomatoes and zucchini harvested and sent out - no pic - looks just like pic from last week :) Harvests winding down soon...

...and another harvest of tomatoes and eggplant - they have been very productive this year :) Being sent off to Bayview Community Center Food Pantry...
