Brothers and Sisters,

Labor Day should never be treated as just another long weekend.
It exists because the working people who came before us organized, took risks, and demanded a better deal for themselves and their families. The labor movement changed what Americans could expect from a job, and union members continue that work every day.

We know what is at stake when workers lose their voice. Wages suffer. Benefits are cut. Safety takes a back seat. Decisions that affect our lives are made without us at the table.

That is why our union matters.

A strong union gives working people the power to demand respect, hold employers accountable, and fight for a better future for the next generation.

This Labor Day, we celebrate more than our work. We celebrate the strength that comes from standing together and the responsibility we share to keep that strength alive.

Thank you for your commitment to your union and to one another.

In Solidarity,

Alex Tetzlaff
Business Manager, IUOE Local 420

🥎 A great night of softball and solidarity in Lake Tomahawk!

Several of our members took the field for the Snowshoe softball game against the Lake Tomahawk Snowhawks, while plenty more cheered them on from the crowd.

The final score may not have gone our way, but it was a great evening of fun, camaraderie, and time spent together. Thanks to everyone who played, came out to support the team, and made it a night to remember!

Imagine what tripling union membership could mean: more wealth flowing to workers, better access to healthcare, and more money being spent in the communities where working people live.

Foreword Imagine union membership tripling in the United States. It may sound radical—if you’ve forgotten history. In fact, more than 1 in 3 private-sector workers belonged to a union in the 1950s. The results? Wages grew in tandem with the economy. The middle class thrived. Black-white wage gap...

Americans overwhelmingly support unions over big business because unions work for workers, not rich CEOs.

This piece was also published on Medium. For decades, Americans were evenly divided in their relative support of labor unions and big business, but that’s no longer the case. Now, Americans are more likely to side with labor than at any time in the past 60 years. For people whose instincts about e...

What would happen if the over 50 million Americans who want to join a union were able to?

Imagine if one-in-three private-sector workers belonged to a union. What would wages, benefits, and working conditions look like if more workers had access to a union contract and the labor movement gained strength to beat back billionaires and big corporations? What would it mean for our economy an...
