Grad students: There's one week left to invest in your research and your future!

What could being part of the SLAS community mean for your research journey? Just ask Lan Mi, our 2024 SLAS Graduate Education Fellowship Grant recipient from the Department of Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

For Mi, the fellowship represented an opportunity to expand her knowledge, explore new areas of research and strengthen her understanding of laboratory automation and screening techniques.

As she explains:

"Attending SLAS conferences and workshops presents an invaluable opportunity to delve into diverse research areas, as well as deepen my understanding of automation and screening techniques. The insights gleaned from SLAS resources inspired new directions in my research and shaped my career aspirations."

The 2027 SLAS Graduate Education Fellowship Grant offers the next generation of scientists an opportunity to pursue meaningful research while building connections and gaining valuable professional experiences.

Join Automated Science Education TIG Chairs Kennedy McDaniel Bae (The Glassfloor) and Josh Kangas (Carnegie Mellon University) as they preview the Global Automated Science Education (GASE) Guidelines and discuss the skills, competencies and proficiency levels needed to prepare the next generation of automated science professionals.

Our next SLAS Technology Idea Exchange will feature Vladimir Ershov, MS, Fane Mensah, MSc, PhD and Toby Taylor of Automata as they look at what it takes to move AI from the lab demo to the real-world workflow, including orchestration, security, governance and human oversight.

What does learning liquid handling actually teach you? More than how to operate a liquid handler.

Hands-on experience with lab automation can give scientists, especially those starting out in their career, a foundation for understanding how science, engineering, operations, software and IT intersect.

In the first post of our SLAS Applied Liquid Handling Bootcamp Q&A series, Crystal McKinnon, PhD (HighRes Biosolutions), explains why building liquid handling and automation skills are becoming an important part of the modern scientist’s toolkit.

Last week, SLAS CEO Vicki Loise and European Ambassador Manuela Biel-Peter (Analytik Jena) had another great stop on the European Meet-Up tour.

Our Tübingen Meet-Up brought together colleagues from across the life sciences and laboratory automation communities for an afternoon of conversation, connection and networking.

Held alongside the first day of nICLAS Forum 2026, our Meet-Up was a great opportunity to connect with researchers and professionals working across life sciences and to continue the conversations happening throughout the forum.
