At Notre Dame, researchers are exploring how emerging technology can help strengthen human connections.

Through the Human-Centered Analytics Lab at the Mendoza College of Business, researchers are studying how interactive social robots can support caregivers and improve reminiscence therapy for people living with dementia.

The robots can use personal information from favorite music and sports teams to family traditions to help spark meaningful conversations and memories. At the same time, human caregivers continue to provide the compassion, expertise, and relationships at the heart of care.

A powerful example of technology being developed with people, not simply for people.

Three Notre Dame leaders have been appointed by Pope Leo XIV to serve as consultors to the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.

Notre Dame faculty members Emmanuel Katongole and Clemens Sedmak, along with University Trustee Kathryn “Katie” Koch, are among 12 new consultors appointed from around the world, and the only three selected from the United States.

Their appointments recognize their expertise and commitment to advancing human dignity, justice, care for creation, migration and peace, reflecting Notre Dame’s mission to put knowledge and faith in service to the common good.

Five Notre Dame researchers have earned Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Awards, the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious award for early-career faculty.

Established in 1995, the NSF CAREER Program now supports 34 active research projects at Notre Dame—advancing discovery across fields from chemistry and physics to engineering.

Notre Dame is helping shape what’s next for Benton Harbor.

The School of Architecture’s Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative is partnering with the City of Benton Harbor and local organizations on a community-driven vision for the St. Joseph Riverfront and downtown.

Through a series of listening sessions and a weeklong planning process, Notre Dame faculty will work alongside residents and community stakeholders to develop actionable plans for housing, public spaces, recreation, connectivity and economic development.
