Really painful periods aren't something you should automatically brush off as “just part of being a woman.”

Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It affects an estimated 10% of reproductive-age women worldwide.

Symptoms can include:
• Severe menstrual cramps
• Chronic pelvic or lower-back pain
• Pain during or after s*x
• Painful bowel movements or urination during your period
• Heavy menstrual bleeding
• Bloating, nausea or other digestive symptoms
• Difficulty getting pregnant

Symptoms can look different from person to person, and having one or more of these symptoms doesn't necessarily mean you have endometriosis.
If period pain or other symptoms are interfering with school, work, relationships or your everyday activities, talk with a healthcare provider about what you're experiencing.
