Freedom is always something worth celebrating! That's why we honor the legacy of Juneteenth.

This day celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. But it also focuses on the overall resilience and culture of Black Americans, as well as the continuing discussion surrounding civil rights and equality.

Thanks so much to everyone who joined us at the Community Celebration & Annual Meeting yesterday! We really appreciate all the support shown for UWFH and our community.

Everyone had a great time enjoying delicious food from Stone Soup Café Greenfield MA, chatting with other non-profit leaders and community members, and staying cool inside the well air-conditioned Garden House at Look Memorial Park. And we managed to just about fill up a van with all the diaper donations from attendees!

Congrats go out to this year's award winners! Our Kay Sheehan Community Spirit award for 2026 went to LifePath. Then, the Daily Hampshire Gazette's Young Community Member award went to Zara Usman (accepted on her behalf by her mother), while their Person of the Year award went to Denise Devine. (You can read more about both of them at https://gazettenet.com/.)

All-in-all, it was a really great day. Hope to see you all again next year!

Last week our President and CEO, Geoff Naunheim, joined a group of local community and non-profit leaders on a trip to the Boston State House. It was organized by Greenfield Savings Bank to help advocate for the needs of Western MA communities and build dialogue with our legislators.

The group met with Reps Lindsay Sabadosa, Mindy Domb, Homar Gomez, Aaron Saunders, and Susannah Whipps, as well as Senator Jo Comerford. They also met with Sen. Finegold, Chair Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, and Eric Paley, Secretary of Economic Development.

All in all, it was a very busy--and very productive--day!

At the 2026 Community Celebration & Annual Meeting on June 11, UWFH we will present the winner of the 2026 Kay Sheehan Community Spirit award.

Named after the beloved Northampton educator and long-serving volunteer, this award goes to the person or organization who we feel truly exemplifies Kay's sense of community pride and demonstrates the same generosity of time and resources in their own volunteerism.

Pictured here is our 2025 award winner: Greg Malynoski. Stay tuned for the announcement of the 2026 award winner!
