What a busy, educational and FUN few days for our Livestock Team!

Our trip to Pennsylvania was packed with opportunities to learn, compete, explore and make memories.

Along the way, we:
🌱 Toured Delaware Valley University to learn about their animal science program
🌽 Explored Amish Country and the beautiful farms and landscape of PA
🏆 Competed in the KILE Stockman's Contest
🐎 Admired some fluffy Hereford cattle and watched some of the beautiful draft horses in the hitch show
🍫 Learned how fresh PA milk makes it way into Hershey chocolate
🐄 Toured Grumbine's Pure-Spring Holsteins, seeing an incredible herd of deep-pedigreed Holstein cattle.

A special thank you to our tour hosts, Nellie & Suzanne (past Smith students and current DVU seniors) and Andrea and Brandon Grumbine.

This trip would have not been possible without the financial support of Easthampton Savings Bank bankESB and Farm Credit East Farm Credit East, ACA. Thank you for supporting our students' future!

We are so happy and proud to say we placed 16th overall with over 40 teams competing. And even more importantly, proud of how much these students have grown and how they represented Smith and the little state of Massachusetts!

Our Livestock Team is competing today in Harrisburg, PA at the Keystone International Livestock Expo's Stockmans Contest. This comprehensive competition tests students knowledge on all parts of livestock management including evaluation, meat quality, feed identification and general knowledge questions. Exciting news for Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School! 💻🎉

SVAHS has been awarded a grant through the Massachusetts Broadband Institute’s (MBI) Connected & Online Program, administered by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech). Through this grant, our school received 500 Dell 2-in-1 touchscreen Chromebooks and 10 charging carts!

This grant expands access to technology in our academic classrooms, vocational & agricultural shops, and adult education programs. It also supports broader community access to technology for education, workforce development, and healthcare. For more information, visit smithtec.org/technology.

From classroom learning to career training, these resources will help create more opportunities for our students and the communities we serve. Thank you to MBI and MassTech for supporting access to technology and investing in our community!
