It was a great morning closing out our participation in Northampton Bike Week as part of Bike Month with an Intro to Group Riding clinic.

About 10 riders joined us in Northampton and were led by Leila from . Riders learned the basics of safe and confident group riding, including communication, pacing, positioning, and etiquette, before heading out for a relaxed group ride on the Manhan Rail Trail up to Easthampton and back.

Thank you to everyone who came out, and a huge shout out to Leila for helping us build a stronger, more confident cycling community. We can’t wait to see all these folks on June 20th for the BFC ride. Love Bikes, Hate Cancer.

What an amazing day for Cancer Connection, Inc. to have their 16th Mother’s Day Half Marathon! A huge shout out to all the moms who participated, volunteered, and cheered! But a special call out to our board member Becky McAvoy for running once again, and her son Brennan for slowing down to run with her! Congratulations to all!

Team Spotlight: Joe’s Garage
Joe’s Garage has been part of Bikes Fight Cancer since day one—but it didn’t start as the fundraising team it is today.

What began as Joe helping riders and some of his riders showing up and participating, has grown into something more. In 2024, Joe Mai brought the team together, asked them to share why they ride, and set a clear goal: raise more.
They followed through.

In 2025, Joe’s Garage became our top fundraising team, raising over $36,000.

This is a group of competitive cyclists who understand effort, discipline, and pushing limits. Fundraising didn’t come naturally, but they approached it the same way they approach competition: with focus and determination.

This team has turned their effort into real impact.

As one rider shared: “Fundraising for Bikes Fight Cancer… makes a tangible difference to our community.”

Another commented: “This ride gives me a sense of power that cancer took away when I watched it take my loved ones.”

That’s what this ride is about.

“Not everyone can race with a team, but everyone can raise money and ride to beat cancer.”

Joe’s Garage is proof that when people come together and lean into their strengths, they can make a real impact.

We are grateful that Joe has been part of the BFC family since the beginning.

Some good news to share this morning! A new endowment has been set up, on behalf of our community, at Cooley Dickinson Health Care to support patient care.

Mass General Brigham announced the creation of the Bikes Fight Cancer Patient Care Fund to provide integrative therapies and financial support for cancer patients at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
