End of Watch: K9 Vaughan 🐾💙

With incredibly heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of K9 Vaughan, a 5-year-old Dutch Shepherd and deeply loved member of our department.

Vaughan passed away unexpectedly at home following an illness. At just five years old, he was still an active-duty K9 and had faithfully served our department and community for the past four years.

For those who had the privilege of knowing Vaughan, he was so much more than the badge he wore or the work he performed.

He was a partner. A protector. A constant companion. And, above all, he was family.

For four years, Vaughan reported for duty beside his handler, ready to serve without hesitation. Their partnership was built on countless hours of training, trust, and time spent together — but the bond between a K9 and handler extends far beyond a shift or a patrol car. At the end of every workday, Vaughan went home as a beloved member of the family.

His loss was sudden, unexpected, and far too soon.

Today, there is an empty place in a patrol car, in our department, and most painfully, in the home and heart of the handler who loved him.

We are grateful for every day we were given with Vaughan and for the four years he devoted to protecting the community he served. Although his time with us was much shorter than anyone could have imagined, the impact he made and the memories he leaves behind will remain.

Please keep Vaughan’s handler, family, and our entire department in your thoughts as we mourn the loss of one of our own.

Rest easy, Vaughan.

You were a good boy, a faithful partner, and a loyal friend. Your work here is done. We’ll take the watch from here. 💙🐾

K9 Sony got some excellent training as a member of the FBI Render Safe Explosive Task Force. North Little Rock Police Department

Today, the 's Arkansas Render Safe Task Force Explosives K9 Teams, along with the Little Rock Air Force Base Explosives K9 Program, conducted quarterly training at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Regular joint training ensures our teams remain prepared to respond to evolving threats, strengthen interagency coordination, and maintain the specialized skills needed to protect our communities. These exercises are essential to the FBI’s mission to defend the homeland and protect the American people.

Roller Funeral Home made it possible for the Foundation to purchase K9 Roller 5 years ago. Roller Funeral Home donated the ENTIRE purchase amount. We are forever in their debt.

We would like to express our sympathy in the passing of Ret. Lt. Mark Tabor. Lt. Tabor was a co-founder (along with Ofcs. Jim Dixon and Ken Chisholm) of our K-9 Unit back in 1983. Lt. Tabor (a Sergeant at the time) researched other K9 programs from various agencies and prepared a proposal to then Police Chief Dale Bruce. Chief Bruce approved the program, and it all got started. Lt. Tabor attended a six-week training program with Ofc. Dixon and Ofc. Chisholm, PCSO, ASP and Jacksonville PD. Without Lt. Tabor our program would not be what it is today. Our heartfelt prayers are extended to the entire Tabor family
