Happy Haitian Heritage Month,

The amazing documentary W.E.B. Du Bois: Rebel With A Cause is screening daily at the Laemmle Monica Film Center in Santa Monica at 1:10 PM, 4:10 PM, and 7:10 PM through Thursday, May 14. W.E.B. Du Bois is one of my historical heroes. His grandfather and father were Haitian. He was the first Black man to receive a PhD from Harvard in 1895. He is also considered the Father of Sociology, though he is often not given proper credit for his groundbreaking contributions. In addition, he was a leader in establishing the first Pan-African Congress in London in 1900.
The film will also premiere on PBS on May 19, 2026.

Be sure to watch this amazing documentary by award-winning filmmaker Rita Coburn and Executive Producer Sandra Manley, a pivotal leader in the Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center and Black film festivals in Los Angeles.
