Please join us May 17th at Sawyer’s Playhouse at LACAE for our final reading of the season in our Radically Miscast series!
A word on this reading from Director Kate Faye...
"One my favorite things about Shakespeare’s plays is their ability to evolve as world events continue to shape our culture. However, under the Radically Miscast banner, Much Ado About Nothing presents a unique challenge. The central conflict is built on specific norms and expectations around gender, age and status, which Shakespeare laid bare as illusory, shallow and at times actively harmful.
When invited to direct this play with age, gender and other factors rearranged or thrown out altogether, I was concerned that this central theme might collapse. But it turns out that without those specific norms to stand on, the central questions remain, just under a broader lens. Who gets to decide the worth of others based on their demographic, status, or identity? When is it worth re-examining these structures? How do we decide who gets a voice, and why? And how does that shape the way we treat each other?"
