“Gift-giving is now in full swing in the midst of the holiday buzz. As we bask in the glow (and chaos) of the Christmas and New Year shindigs with friends, family and co-workers, it is enlightening to reflect on and take stock of our own personal blessings. I’ve found that the JOY I got from giving is more than a myth. The warm fuzzy feelings we get is not only borne of scripture, “It is in giving that we receive,” but it has a scientific basis as well.

The privilege of giving and the opportunity to share it through One UPV Foundation underscore the importance of gratitude, the stark realization of the amount of need there is and always the sense of wonder, of how impactful in many immeasurable ways those targeted resources bring to so many students. Just a little push! A whole lot of bright futures — some not even dreamed of yet!

I also want to mention my sheer admiration for these scholars who toil and push for their ambitions unflinchingly in the midst of adversity and lack of resources. There is so much faith, courage and hope in their efforts. I contrast that with my own time at UPV with my own blessings and squandered youth and say hats off to our scholars — and I feel so privileged and enthused to help! Our shared history with the University of the Philippines system makes this endeavor way more meaningful and endearing.”

Supporting One UPV: A Commitment to Education and Opportunity

“As a proud graduate of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and a board member of One UPV, my connection to this cause is deeply personal. My time at UPV shaped who I am today, and I am passionate about giving back to the community that gave me so much. One UPV’s mission to provide scholarship grants to deserving students resonates with me because I understand firsthand the transformative power of education.

One UPV was founded by UPV alumni like myself who wanted to ensure that financial barriers do not stand in the way of talented students achieving their dreams. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded numerous scholarships, helping students cover essential academic expenses such as textbooks, laptops, internet connectivity, and even basic needs like food and lodging. This support is crucial in ensuring that these hardworking students can focus on their studies and reach their full potential.

I support One UPV because I believe in the life-changing impact of education.
