Libreros Foundation was created in loving memory of a beautiful angel. Karen was an intelligent, strong, funny, and vibrant person. She had a beautiful smile that warmed anyone’s heart. Her beauty wasn’t just in her appearance, it also shined through her personality. She was loved by so many friends and family. In 2010, Karen was diagnosed with leukemia and lost her battle against this terrible di

sease less than a year after being diagnosed, just a few months before her 21st birthday. Although Karen is now with the angels above, she is truly missed each and every day. Someone in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer every 3 minutes and every 9 minutes someone loses their battle against a blood cancer. An estimate 58, 320 people are expected to die in 2016 from leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. About 60,000 people are expected to be diagnosed with leukemia in 2016. Between the years of 2008-2012, the fifth most common cause of cancer in men was leukemia and it was the sixth most common for women. For more information on cancer of the blood, visit www.lls.org. On behalf of The Karen Libreros Foundation we’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to not only those who attended and were part of such an amazing event, but also to those who couldn’t attend and made a donation to the cause! This year has been our most successful year yet and we couldn’t be more grateful or proud! With all of your help we were able to raise over $4,000 in cash profits!! And with the the additional help of a gift matching program, who will be matching our dollar amount raised this year, our grand total will be over $8,000! As mentioned, Lindsay Runne will be receiving a portion of the profits and we will be donating $2,500.00 of profits raised to her and her family. We are overjoyed to hear that Lindsay is now in remission and will continue to keep her and her family in our thoughts! This year our proceeds will go towards a brilliant young 18 year old girl named Lindsay Runne. We started doing this in honor of Karen and we want to make it our mission to help as much as we can. For those of you that have supported us and donated throughout the years, thank you so much! We want you guys to know more about this amazing young lady from Delaware currently battling Leukemia.

" Lindsay Runne is a sweet, smart, bright, and brave girl who needs our help! Lindsay has a passion for inspiring children and has been really enjoying her time working full time as an assistant teacher at Kids Cottage. She is fighting to get back in the classroom with her kids and striving towards her dream to become a kindergarten teacher. Our beautiful Lindsay went to the ER on August 29th with chest pains after battling a cold, 24 hours later our world was flipped upside down. Lindsay was diagnosed with Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (cancer of the blood and bone marrow), at just 18 years old. She will be undergoing at least 6 months to a year of chemotherapy at Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Since her diagnosis, she has already been through multiple invasive procedures including four blood transfusions, a spinal tap and bone marrow biopsy."
