🌍 **Building Sustainable Change Through Local Partnerships in Kenya**
One of the greatest joys of returning to Kenya each year is seeing that the work of Days for Girls continues long after our team returns home.
For many years, the Days for Girls Eagleville, PA Chapter has partnered with the Days for Girls Kenya Enterprise and an incredible team of local Ambassadors of Women’s Health who are transforming lives throughout the Kisumu region. Rather than simply providing menstrual products during our annual visits, we invest in local leaders who continue this important work throughout the year.
During this year’s mission trip, we distributed Days for Girls Kits at Dagu Thim Junior School, a rural public school outside Kisumu. Girls ages 12–15 received high-quality, reusable menstrual kits made by the Days for Girls Kenya Enterprise. Teachers also received kits and were deeply grateful, recognizing that menstrual dignity benefits educators as well as students.
We also returned to Blair Educational Centre, where girls in Grades 5–9 participated in an interactive menstrual health education session. Because many had received kits during last year’s visit, girls who still had their kits received two new pairs of underwear so they could continue using them with confidence.
Blair’s teachers—trained Ambassadors of Women’s Health—know each student personally. They were able to identify who needed a complete kit and who needed replacement underwear. These trusted relationships created opportunities for honest questions, encouragement, and continued education.
Our chapter purchases at least 500 kits from the Days for Girls Kenya Enterprise every year, but the impact extends far beyond the time we spend in Kenya. Throughout the year, Dorothy, Winnie, Zilper, Peace, and other Ambassadors of Women’s Health identify schools with the greatest need and provide menstrual health education and sustainable products to girls across western Kenya.
This is what Days for Girls is all about: equipping local leaders to create lasting change in their own communities. Together, we are helping girls remain in school, protect their health, preserve their dignity, and pursue the futures they deserve.
What began as the distribution of kits has grown into a sustainable, locally led movement—powered by educators, advocates, and ambassadors who are changing lives every day. We are incredibly grateful to be part of it. ❤️
