As we close out the 2022 Virtual "On Your Marc" 5k run/walk, we would like to say Thank You to all our participants, sponsors, donors, and supporters!

We thank you for honoring the memory of our hero, SSG Marc Small, as he lives in on in our hearts forever!

We thank you for supporting Small Steps in Speech as we continue to focus on our mission of supporting children all over the world in need of speech and language therapies!

We love seeing all you beautiful people smiling and running/walking your "On Your Marc" 5k. Don't forget to tag us on social media, send us your photos, or upload your photos on our race website!

Today, August 4th, we celebrate Marc's 43rd birthday!

We invite you to join us as we raise a glass to our hero, SSG Marc Small.

Though lost decades too soon, his memory lives on through his family and friends and the children served by Small Steps in Speech. Without you, we could not support children with speech and language needs!

"On Your Marc" was held in person from 2009-2018 in Marc's hometown of Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Family, friends, teammates, and the town of Collegeville would gather that first weekend of August, in conjunction with Marc's birthday of August 4th, and honor the memory of Marc Small. SSIS Spotlight - Ava

Today we spotlight Ava, who received a grant from Small Steps in Speech in 2022.

Sade, Ava's mother, shares Ava's story below:

"SSIS is helping Ava tremendously in her speech and language development. Since receiving the grant, Ava has been working with a prompt trained SLP who has been essential in Ava learning proper jaw and oral movement to create phonetic sounds. Ava has even mastered how to blow bubbles! Ava also has much more functional language due to SSIS she frequently requests for items saying "I want.." or "can I have..." and has learned how to answer yes/no questions. Now Ava is working on "and" and "wh" questions. Having access to the right interventions is essential for a child to thrive. Thanks to SSIS Ava will continue to improve and flourish. Thank you so much to SSIS and all the donors."

Small Steps in Speech was created to honor the memory of SSG Marc Small and help children with speech and/or language disorders take the "Small" steps needed to be better communicators. Since 2009, Small Steps in Speech has awarded more than $1.7 million in grants to more than 1,400 families across the country. The photos are of some of our amazing little humans who have benefited from Small Steps in Speech's mission.
