1 year old Kohen Wiley was shot and killed in June after police fired into a car at a Walmart they claimed was driving towards them. The two women in the vehicle, one of which was Kohen’s mother, were accused of stealing a pack of diapers.

Kohen was shot while sitting on his mother’s lap.

To date no shoplifting charges have been filed for either women and no evidence has been presented showing that anything was stolen from the store.

Today after months of “investigating” the Mississippi attorney general stated that the police officer who killed Kohen was “justified”.

Justified. Let that sink in.

Justified.

There is no universe where killing a 1-year-old is justified. I am so angry I don’t even know where to begin.

I’m angry not only because of this grave injustice but because I know the so called christian pro-life right will do nothing about this.

There will be no mass outcry, no calls for legal action nor do I expect the Christian republican lawmakers in Mississippi to use their power to correct one of the most evil decisions in the state’s history.

'Under the Trump administration, ICE has held some children and families for several days in locations that lawyers say are “black boxes,” where families and lawyers cannot find them.

Families described constant surveillance, limited access to food, and threats of separation if they told anyone where they were being kept.

'In a secret meeting at the White House, an aide to Stephen Miller laid out the plan: To make it easier for states to round up and institutionalize mentally ill homeless people, the Trump administration was pushing a drastic policy change that would weaken the rights of millions of disabled Americans.

Then the Department of Justice did just that, issuing a sweeping legal opinion that revoked decades of federal disability policy rooted in the landmark Supreme Court ruling Olmstead v. L.C.

Disabled people and their advocates were horrified. Some fear that without the federal government enforcing their right to live on their own, they will have no choice but to move into institutions. Families who want to keep their disabled relatives at home worry that they will need to quit jobs or drain savings to pick up the caregiving slack.

In a statement, a White House official denied Miller had a role in the DOJ opinion. A Justice Department spokesperson said the memo resulted from a routine request to review existing guidance and clarify the scope of the Olmstead decision.

Six years ago today, Community for Change was born! ❤️

After a summer of protesting for Black Lives Matter across Montgomery County, we organized a day of action. We returned to the places where we had stood together all summer to protest, with a car parade connecting each stop.

We knew that to continue the work we had started in MontCo, we needed more than protests. We needed to build a coalition. We needed a “Community for Change.”

The community and coalition that came together that summer planted a seed. A seed that continues to grow through the work we do today.

Six years later, we know that the work is far from over. But we also know what’s possible when we come together, organize, and fight for the world we want to see.

We will change this world. We will change this country. And it starts right here, with what we do together in Montgomery County.

Six years down. The work continues.

We all know that Columbus didn’t sail the ocean blue in 1492 and respect the land and native people he encountered. In 2021, a president (Biden) acknowledged Indigenous Peoples Day for the first time but less than half of the United States officially celebrate it now, meaning 33 states still call today “Columbus Day.”

Acknowledging him over the Indigenous people he tortured and killed is right in line with the patterns of this country and our histories. Today, on this stolen land, we are still fighting to battle white supremacy in our government and our communities.
