Over the past decade, companies have changed the way they price their products — and shoppers are getting deliberately overcharged. Retailers are using your browsing data, demographics and purchase history to determine how much to charge you.

To avoid getting ripped off, consumer advocate Lindsay Owens, author of "Gouged," has advice. Check the prices multiple ways, on multiple devices. It may be tedious, but it may save you hundreds of dollars — especially on big-ticket items like airfare, hotel rooms and car rentals.

Save or take a screen grab of this checklist to use as a reference, and read the story on NPR in the comment below.

“Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History” is unusually clear about its own limit. Moser says so plainly in the introduction: “Though this book is necessarily about Jews, it exists only because of Palestinians.” At the close of the introduction, he expresses the hope that those who encounter this tradition will “shed the solipsism that has ever been a fault of the Jews” and place “the real victims of Zionism, the Palestinian people, at the heart of all they do.”

These are not casual sentences. They mark, with some precision, the outer boundary of Moser’s project. A recovery of Jewish conscience, however thorough and morally serious, speaks primarily to the community whose conscience is being recovered. Its audience is chiefly those who needed to be reminded that opposition to Zionism grew from within Jewish intellectual and spiritual life. This work matters. It arrives, by its nature, from one direction.

Subscribe to Fifth Estate!

There they are. Where they shouldn't be. Hundreds of the latest edition of the Fifth Estate sitting in a damp garage waiting to be passed into the hands of readers and potential subscribers.
We print about thousand extra copies to be passed out free hoping it will encourage people who see the magazine for the first time to subscribe like many of you have.
If you can help with free distro, let us know at [email protected]. We can send from 5-50 copies to you to place where you think people will be most interested.
A NOTE TO SUBSCRIBERS:
Subscriptions are for four issues. Subscribers are our main source of finances to keep the Fifth Estate going, now in its 61st year.
Like most publications, we mail renewal notices hoping you will continue to support the anarchist press. It's probably the task of producing the magazine we dislike the most--folding hundreds of notices, sealing them, putting stamps on each one. We ask that you self-renew to take some of the work off of our very small staff.
You can check your status by looking at the number to the right of your name on the address label. 418 is the current number. If it's below that, you've expired. 418 means it's your last in the series. We will be sending out letter to those with 419, the coming edition.
Thanks!
