Our nonprofit organization produces an inclusive, family-friendly festival, offering free access to world-class talent, educational workshops, and vibrant vendor offerings. Jazz in June was founded by the Norman Arts and Humanities Council and the Cimarron Circuit Opera Company in 1984 to bring high-quality blues and jazz acts to Norman. Because the partnership was ineligible to receive grants, in
1990 a separate non-profit organization, Jazz in June, Inc., was formally created with the Norman Arts Council, Cimarron Circuit Opera Company and KGOU as partners and other members at large. In the nearly three decades since, the festival has developed into a highly anticipated annual event attended by an estimated 50,000 people. The three-evening Jazz in June series today comprises “Blues Under the Stars” in Brookhaven Village on Thursday, “Jazz Under the Stars” in Brookhaven Village on Friday and “Jazz in the Park” at Andrews Park on Saturday. Among the artists to have graced the Jazz in June stage over the years are Beatrice Cole, Chuck Mangione, Oklahoma Panhandlers, T.S. Minner and Selby, The Airmen of Note, Larry Hammett Quartet, Edgar Cruz, Poncho Sanchez, the Ellis Marsalis Quintet and Pinkie & the Snakeshakers. For a complete list, visit http://jazzinjune.org.
