Mission & History:

The Norman Firehouse Art Center enriches our community by offering creative visual arts education, experiences and exhibits. At the Firehouse, we believe that art is for everyone, and work to make arts education available to all individuals, regardless of age, culture, ability, or socioeconomic status. Today, we house professional visual arts studios and classrooms that provide

children, teen, and adult education and enrichment programs, as well as a gallery and gift shop which are free to the public. We promote visual arts awareness and accessibility, provide art exhibitions, and offer opportunities that support local artists. The Firehouse is partially funded by the City of Norman, Allied Arts OKC, Oklahoma Arts Council, and The Norman Arts Council, as well as corporate sponsorships, memberships, and donations.

We're thrilled to announce our new partnership with Red Earth and an exciting lineup of workshops that celebrate creativity, culture, and hands-on artistic experiences for our community.

Our first collaboration is the Posca Planter Party, a family-friendly workshop where participants will design and decorate their own planter alongside artist Ashley Showalter using vibrant Posca pens. It's the perfect opportunity to create something unique while spending time with family and friends.

And that's just the beginning. We're excited to continue this partnership with upcoming workshops featuring Ronda Moss for Basket Weaving in September, Roberta Benelli for a Beaded Medallion Class in October, and Lauretta Coker for a Mosaic Workshop this winter.

Made possible through the generous support of the Chickasaw Nation History and Culture, the Red Earth Partnership celebrates the rich artistic heritage of Indigenous communities and creates opportunities for meaningful cultural exchange through hands-on experiences.

Learn more about the Posca Planter Party and explore our full lineup of upcoming workshops by visiting the Workshops page on our website. https://www.normanfirehouse.com/workshops

Calling all Oklahoma artists!

The inaugural SPARK! Benefiting Bright Futures Gala is now accepting art submissions for one of Norman’s most inspiring nights celebrating creativity, community, and the future of the arts. Hosted in support of the Firehouse Art Center, SPARK! will feature a curated Art Auction with over 50 original works, live artist demonstrations, and an evening dedicated to honoring the artists who helped shape Oklahoma’s creative community.

This is your opportunity to have your work featured in front of art supporters, collectors, and community leaders while helping support arts education for Norman Public elementary schools through the Art Sparks program. Selected artists may choose to donate 50% or 100% of their final sale value, directly impacting future generations of young artists.

Whether you’re an emerging artist or an established creative, we want to showcase the incredible talent Oklahoma has to offer. Join us in creating an unforgettable night of art, inspiration, and impact. Submit your work and help spark the future of the arts in Oklahoma.

Join us this June for the Equality Club Meeting featuring a special workshop led by Karis C. focused on q***r identity, self expression, and experimental portraiture.

This 2-hour workshop invites participants to create large scale self portraits while breaking traditional “good drawing” rules and embracing expression over perfection. Using oversized butcher paper and unconventional tools, participants will explore distortion, layering, and intuitive mark making in a fun, welcoming environment. No technical experience is needed.

Participants are encouraged to bring classroom safe materials such as sticks, leaves, cardboard, dirt, knickknacks, and other found objects to experiment with throughout the workshop.
