Mission & History:

The Norman Firehouse Art Center enriches our community by offering creative visual arts education, experiences and exhibits. At the Firehouse, we believe that art is for everyone, and work to make arts education available to all individuals, regardless of age, culture, ability, or socioeconomic status. Today, we house professional visual arts studios and classrooms that provide

children, teen, and adult education and enrichment programs, as well as a gallery and gift shop which are free to the public. We promote visual arts awareness and accessibility, provide art exhibitions, and offer opportunities that support local artists. The Firehouse is partially funded by the City of Norman, Allied Arts OKC, Oklahoma Arts Council, and The Norman Arts Council, as well as corporate sponsorships, memberships, and donations.

Meet our newest jewelry instructor, Shawn Abrahamson.

After serving 20 years in the Army, Shawn discovered jewelry making as a creative outlet and a way to navigate the challenges and stress that can come with life after military service. What began as a personal form of healing has grown into a true passion, and now he's excited to share that passion with others.

In Beginning Jewelry, students will learn the fundamentals of jewelry fabrication and silversmithing through hands-on projects and guided demonstrations. From sawing, soldering, and ring forming to polishing and finishing techniques, this class is the perfect place to build confidence while creating beautiful, handmade pieces.

There's no better time to discover the joy of jewelry making than in Shawn's welcoming, hands-on class.

Summer may be drawing to a close, but we're not ready to brush it off just yet. ๐ŸŽจโ˜€๏ธ

From colorful camps and messy masterpieces to new friendships and countless creative moments, this summer was truly one for the canvas. Thank you to everyone who painted brighter days, molded unforgettable memories, and helped make Norman Firehouse the happiest little corner of creativity.

We had a palette-ful of fun, and while this chapter is getting its final brushstroke, the creativity is far from drying up.

Before we turn the page to fall, join us one more time as we celebrate everything our summer artists have created at our Childrenโ€™s Summer Art Show on August 12. It's the perfect opportunity to see the incredible work that came to life in our studios and cheer on the artists who made this summer so special.

Figure Intensive: Sustained Observation with on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 pm. This four week intensive invites artists to deepen their practice through sustained observation of a single figure pose. .

Chaotic Glazing with on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 pm. Through guided prompts and timed glazing challenges, students will practice making quicker decisions, layering glazes with more curiosity, and trusting their instincts when responding to form, texture, and surface.

From young artists discovering their creativity for the first time to experienced makers sharpening their skills, this summer has been everything we hoped for and more. We're so grateful to everyone who chose to make art a part of their summer and filled our studios with creativity, laughter, and inspiration.

One of our favorite parts has been seeing artists of every age walk through our doors. The Firehouse is truly a place where creativity brings our community together, and we can't thank you enough for being part of it.

This year's SPARK! Gala will feature four incredible Oklahoma artists, each bringing a unique live artistic experience that celebrates the many ways creativity thrives in our community.

๐ŸŽจPam Bradford will showcase her nationally recognized "pencil painting" technique during a live painting demonstration on stage.

๐ŸบBirthe Flexner will present a live ceramic demonstration, highlighting her longstanding connection to the Firehouse Art Center and the ceramic arts.

๐Ÿ–จ๏ธCierra Roberts will create live commemorative prints throughout the evening, giving guests a one-of-a-kind keepsake to take home.

๐ŸŽจCarlos Barboza will close out the celebration with a live painting demonstration during the after-party.

Even more exciting, the original works created live by Pam Bradford and Birthe Flexner will be auctioned during the silent auction, giving guests the rare opportunity to take home artwork created right before their eyes. Carlos Barboza's live painting, created during the SPARK! After Party, will also be available to bid on, offering guests one final opportunity to experience art in action and take home a one-of-a-kind piece.
Throughout the evening, guests will also enjoy dinner, an award ceremony honoring the Firehouse Art Center's founders, and an art auction featuring more than 50 original works by Oklahoma artists.

A fresh splash of color has arrived at the Firehouse!๐ŸŽจโœจ

We're excited to unveil "Polinaturing," our newest outdoor mural now brightening the concrete patio. Designed by Matt Goad and brought to life through the painting talents of Savannah Tallbear, this vibrant work is a beautiful addition to our space and a celebration of creativity in the community.
