When is it time to stop watering your lawn?

General rule is to stop watering when the ground freezes, but timing varies by location and weather.

Six signs to stop watering include:
· Repeated frosts: 3+ consecutive days
· Ground freezes: infiltration stops
· Daytime high temps below 40° F
· Grass yellows or turns brown
· Grass stops growing
· Soil stays moist

We will be there! We will have seeds, coloring books, and other giveaways while supplies last, so don't yell at me! You can get a district canvas bag if you fill out our survey, again while supplies last. And we have some cool wrist bands if you want to be added to our email list.
We will be bringing the new Yard By Yard metal sign to drool over and we can talk about the program.
So, come see us, and we can literally talk about the birds and the bees, or dish the dirt.

I got the privilege to certify the Firehouse Art Center in Norman. It is a Ground by Ground member of the Yard By Yard program. GBG is for businesses and organizations to recognize their efforts using conservation in their landscaping. Firehouse has turned their back terace into a butterfly habitat. The amazing art is an added benefit of this space. Art and environment, who needs more?

YOUR Conservation District participates in various state cost share programs. Our Board of Directors choose to participate in these programs to better serve the producers and citizens of Cleveland County. We have our own Cost Share Program which is released in the Spring each year, but we also participate in the following programs;
Soil Health Implementation Program -currently closed for applications
Advancing Markets for Producers Program - currently closed for applications
Emergency Drought Program - currently closed for applications
AND
Invasive Woody Species Removal -Signup through November 1, 2026
Wetland Restoration Program - Signup through through September 30, 2026
Prescribed Fire Program - Signup through April 1, 2027

Today, I'm pretending that it's Fall. Summer......I'm over it. So, it's time to get out into the garden and prep for fall and one of the best ways is compost!!! If you don't have a system in place, it's time to think about it for spring when you're gonna want it!

We have just added origami to our skillset. Well, it feels like origami! We will be bringing 50 of these mini coloring books to the Monarchs in the Park Festival being held at Ruby Grant Park in Norman on September 27th.
