Let’s talk trash. No, we’re not trash talking anyone. We mean real trash. Garbage. Unsellable items that are left by our dumpsters or at the donation doors when the store is closed. OR EVEN perfectly good items that are left to endure rain and weather, which makes them trash. That’s not a donation, it’s dumping.
This past weekend, a jerk in a truck decided to drop off two couches in front of our dumpster. Here’s the impact of that selfish decision:
😡 The blocked dumpster could not be emptied
😡 Abandoned furniture is an invitation for others to do the same (we had 3 other items left this weekend)
😡 The ReStore is on the hook for the $40 minimum dump fee if we can’t fit both couches in the dumpster
😡 Time and manpower that could be used processing donations and helping customers is spent dealing with one person’s trash
Our goal at Rose Rock Habitat for Humanity is to create affordable housing and enable families to have a decent place to live. As the Rose Rock ReStore, we help fund that mission by selling donated items. We LOVE our donors, our clients, our customers, and our volunteers and want to remain affordable (as a thrift store should be). People like the jerk in the truck are actively damaging that goal. Don’t be that jerk.
