Please join us in celebrating our May Participant of the Month, Madison! πŸ’œ

Madison brings so much joy to our program each day with her sweet smile, kind heart, and happy spirit. She is always excited to participate and brighten the day of everyone around her. One of her favorite things is singing Old MacDonald and exploring sensory bins, which always bring out her biggest smiles!

As an extra reason to celebrate, Madison recently had a birthday! πŸŽ‚πŸŽ‰ We hope her special day was filled with all the happiness she brings to those around her.

We are so proud to have Madison as part of The Resting Tree family. Congratulations, Madison, on being our May Participant of the Month!

Our May newsletter is here!

We had such an amazing month at The Resting Tree filled with laughter, learning, friendship, and so many fun memories. From games to cooking in the skills lab, crafts, special activities, and new experiences, our participants stayed busy all month long!

One of the best parts of May was watching our participants continue to grow in confidence, independence, and social skills while having so much fun together. The smiles, excitement, and friendships being built here every day are what make this program so special.

Thank you to all of our families, staff, supporters, and community partners who help make these moments possible. We are so excited to head into summer and continue creating meaningful opportunities for adults with disabilities in our community!

Check out our May newsletter below to see some of the highlights from this past month!

We are so excited to announce our partnership with Special Olympics as we kick off our VERY FIRST season of Co****le at The Resting Tree! πŸŽ‰πŸŒ³

This opportunity gives our participants a chance to build confidence, teamwork, coordination, and friendships while being part of something bigger in our community. We cannot wait to cheer everyone on this season!

One of the best parts about partnering with Special Olympics is that it opens the door to so many other amazing programs and opportunities for our participants, including:
⭐ Hygiene and self-care education
⭐ Safety programs
⭐ LEGO Club for socialization and communication
⭐ Leadership opportunities
⭐ Health and wellness programs
⭐ And so much more!

We are incredibly thankful for organizations that believe inclusion, connection, and opportunity should be available to everyone. This is just the beginning, and we are excited for all the memories, growth, and fun ahead!

One of the hardest things families face in the IDD community is the wait for services. In Florida, the Medicaid Waiver waitlist can take years, and many individuals who are considered β€œhigher functioning” may not qualify at all, even though they still need support, social opportunities, and a place where they feel included.

That is why our program exists. πŸ’™

Not everyone wants to sit at home waiting for services that may never come. Some people simply want friendship, life skills, independence, and a place where they are accepted exactly as they are.

Our day program is a place for individuals who want inclusion, connection, and meaningful experiences in their everyday lives. Whether someone is waiting on the waiver, does not qualify, or is just looking for more community involvement, we are here for them.

Inclusion should be for everyone, not just the people who qualify on paper.

This Memorial Day, The Resting Tree honors and remembers the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Because of their sacrifice, communities like ours are able to exist with freedom, inclusion, safety, and opportunity. The freedoms we enjoy every day make it possible for individuals with disabilities to learn, grow, build friendships, and be active members of their community.

Today we remember those who gave everything and we reflect on the meaning of service, compassion, and unity. We are deeply grateful. β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™

The Resting Tree will be closed on Memorial Day as we honor and remember our fallen heroes!

At The Resting Tree, our Skills Lab is active multiple days each week, giving participants hands-on opportunities to learn real-life skills in a fun and supportive environment.

One of the most meaningful activities we do is cooking together. Through guided practice, participants learn:

πŸ₯— Food safety basics (clean hands, safe handling, and kitchen awareness)
🍳 How to prepare simple meals they can enjoy and replicate at home
πŸ§‚ Following step-by-step instructions in a real cooking setting
🧽 Important kitchen cleanup skills, including washing dishes, wiping surfaces, and teamwork in keeping shared spaces clean

Cooking in the Skills Lab isn’t just about making foodβ€”it’s about building confidence, independence, and everyday life skills that carry over into the home and community.

We love seeing the pride participants take in what they create and the skills they continue to grow each week!
