Before troops could advance across the beaches of Normandy, specialized demolition teams moved into harm's way to clear obstacles designed to stop the invasion.

Pictured here, a Naval Combat Demolition Unit prepares a charge to destroy a "Belgian Gate" obstacle, helping create safe lanes for the thousands of Allied forces landing behind them. These courageous men faced enemy fire, rough seas, and immense danger to accomplish their mission.

On this 82nd anniversary of D-Day, we remember the heroes whose courage, sacrifice, and determination helped change the course of history.

We honor their legacy and remember their service.

From May 17–20, eight EOD Veterans joined the EOD Warrior Foundation and Track Heroes in Spartanburg, South Carolina, for an unforgettable retreat.

Participants challenged themselves behind the wheel, learned new skills, pushed beyond their comfort zones, and experienced the power of camaraderie that comes from being surrounded by fellow veterans who understand the journey.

Track Heroes uses high-performance driving as a unique way to foster resilience, confidence, and connection, creating opportunities for veterans to focus on the present moment while building lasting bonds with their peers. Together, our participants traded stress for speed, isolation for teamwork, and uncertainty for accomplishment.

A special thank you to the Track Heroes team- especially Air Force EOD veteran, Luke Ryker, instructors, volunteers, and supporters who made this experience possible. Most importantly, thank you to the EOD Veterans who showed up ready to embrace the challenge.

Effective June 1, 2026, the EOD Warrior Foundation marks an important leadership transition as Leon Tackitt officially assumes the role of Chairman of the Board.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Greg K. Mittelman for 15 years of dedicated service, including six years as Board Chairman, helping guide and strengthen the Foundation in support of the EOD Community.

A 27-year U.S. Navy EOD veteran, Leon brings a lifelong commitment to the mission and to the families who serve beside our nation’s EOD Warriors.

“Our mission is personal. We exist to ensure that no EOD Warrior or family walks alone.” — Leon Tackitt

Please join us in thanking Greg for his extraordinary leadership and welcoming Leon as we continue serving the EOD Community together.

On Wednesday, May 27, during the Public Safety Bomb Technician Memorial ceremony, EOD Warrior Foundation Board Chairman Greg K. Mittelman presented a wreath on behalf of the Foundation, which was placed beside the memorial bell as the names of the fallen were read aloud.

This solemn tradition serves as a powerful reminder that behind every name is a life dedicated to protecting communities and fellow citizens from harm. We remain forever grateful for their service and sacrifice.
