On September 11, 2001, Don Pilcher was already deployed. What came next would help define the next two decades of his service.

Don began his 28-year career in 1995 and graduated from NAVSCOLEOD in 2000.

When the attacks of September 11 occurred, Don was deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In the aftermath, forces from the 15th MEU would be employed in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

He would go on to complete multiple deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and serve in numerous EOD leadership and command positions throughout his career.

He later served as an EOD Company Commander and as Commanding Officer of the Marine Detachment at NAVSCOLEOD, ultimately retiring in 2023 as the senior EOD officer in the Marine Corps.

On September 12, Don will join our panel for 25th Anniversary of 9/11: Strength in Every Long Walk, sharing his perspective on September 11, the missions that followed, and nearly three decades of service in the EOD community.

He experienced 9/11 while deployed. Twenty-five years later, he'll help us reflect on what came next.

Join us to hear his story firsthand.

When September 11 happened, Chad Munroe's Navy career had just begun.

Chad joined the U.S. Navy in 2000 as an Intelligence Specialist. Following the attacks of September 11, he deployed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt โ€” beginning a path of service that would ultimately span two decades.

In 2003, Chad graduated from NAVSCOLEOD and was assigned to EODMU 11. He went on to complete two deployments to Iraq, where he disarmed more than 200 improvised explosive devices.

In 2006, Chad was selected for Naval Special Warfare Development Group, where he became an operator and deployed six times in support of Joint Task Forces conducting hostage rescue and direct action missions in the Middle East and Africa.

His military honors include the Bronze Star with Valor, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, five Joint Commendation Medals with Valor, and three Combat Action Ribbons.

On September 12, Chad will join our panel for 25th Anniversary of 9/11: Strength in Every Long Walk, sharing his perspective on September 11 and the two decades of service that followed.

For Chad, 9/11 came near the beginning of his military career. What followed would help define it.

Join us to hear his story firsthand.

Where were you on September 11, 2001?

Brendan Lagasse was sitting in his second-grade classroom.

While he was still a child, his family was experiencing the events of that morning in an intensely personal way.

Brendan had an aunt who was attending a meeting in one of the World Trade Center towers and an uncle who was an officer at the Pentagon. As the events unfolded, his parents watched the news while desperately trying to reach their siblings.

Years later, Brendan would choose his own path of military service.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2016 and ultimately entered the EOD Community, graduating from NAVSCOLEOD in 2021. Most recently, he deployed in support of Operation Spartan Shield to Israel from 2024โ€“2025 for ballistic missile defense.

On September 12, Brendan will join our panel for 25th Anniversary of 9/11: Strength in Every Long Walk, bringing the perspective of someone who experienced 9/11 as a child, and later chose to serve in the generation shaped by its aftermath.

For some, 9/11 changed the course of their service. For others, it helped shape the world in which they would eventually choose to serve.

Join us to hear Brendan's story firsthand.

Where were you on September 11, 2001?

Joseph Deslauriers was at Osan Air Base, supporting the Republic of South Korea.

By then, he had already been serving as a U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Craftsman for more than three years.

September 11 would become one moment in a military career that ultimately spanned more than 16 years โ€” and took Joseph into the conflicts that followed.

In 2011, while deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and serving alongside Marines with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, Joseph was wounded in action.

His service and sacrifice earned him numerous military honors, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Purple Heart.

On September 12, Joseph will join our panel for 25th Anniversary of 9/11: Strength in Every Long Walk to reflect on where he was that day, the years of service that followed, and what it means to look back 25 years later.

From September 11 to the years that followed, his is a story best heard firsthand.

Where were you on September 11, 2001?

Brian Castner was already deployed.

A former U.S. Air Force EOD officer, Brian was serving at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH when the attacks of September 11 unfolded.

In the years that followed, he would serve two tours in Iraq and later become an author and journalist documenting the experiences and consequences of war.

Brian is the author of the acclaimed war memoir The Long Walk and has written about war and service for publications including The New York Times, Wired, and Esquire.

On September 12, Brian will serve as moderator for our 25th Anniversary of 9/11: Strength in Every Long Walk panel discussion, guiding a conversation about where our panelists were that day, the paths that followed, and how September 11 continued to shape their lives and service.
