Its hatching time! The community has been great in supporting this very popular Ag in the Classroom activity in the past and we are looking for your help again this year! Students love to anticipate the hatch and watch the chicks peck their way out of the eggs! So, we are asking for fertilized chicken eggs if you are willing to donate! We will need eggs in 2 rounds. The first collection will be next Tuesday, March 31 where we will need about 15 dozen and the next collection on Tuesday, April 14 where we anticipate needing about 60 dozen. Any help you can provide is appreciated and eggs can be picked up or dropped off at the Jasper County Farm Bureau office. Also, any duck or quail eggs are appreciated as well.

Recently students in Ag in the Classroom go to learn more about a very popular topic…horses! Younger grades learned about the parts of a horse as they turned the letter H into a horse and some older students learned how horses are measured in hands while they figure out how many hands tall they were by measuring themselves!

Spring turkey permits will go on sale over-the-counter tomorrow, March 10th, at 8 am. To help make this a successful Turkey Day, please have either a hunting license/permit or social security number and birthdate ready. We can only accept cash or check for payment.

Jasper County only has 11 permits for 5th season available. Gallatin-Hardin has 53 permits for 5th season available. Several surrounding counties (Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, & Richland) have no tags available for OTC sales.

We are also able to print youth turkey season tags through April 5th. They are limited to 1 per youth and are county specific.

We are once again offering freezer meals from Freezer Chef. You can order either 5 entrees or all 10. One set is Keto and Gluten free. Orders are due by March 2, 2026, and pick up will be March 17, 2026, at 4 pm.

Thank you members for a good turn out at last nights wind and solar informational meeting. We heard from very knowledgeable speakers and had a great discussion. Everyone left feeling more informed.
If you weren’t able to make it to last nights meeting, we have a 1 page summary of solar farm lease considerations and a list of lawyers who have experience handling wind and solar leases. Members can stop by for a copy or give us a call and we’ll email it to you.

Jasper and Clark County Farm Bureaus had a great time in Springfield at the Illinois Farm Bureau Governmental Affairs and Leadership Conference last week. We heard from many knowledgable speakers throughout the day and were able to speak with our legislators on successes and issues facing our members. Thank you State Senator Chapin Rose and Adam Niemerg State Representative!
