The drums pictured are part of the collection of Civil War artifacts and the Androscoggin Historical Society Museum in Lewiston Maine. Glenn Gagne is a member there and he wrote us "We got them in 1968 from the family of Hiram Keays. He was in the 20th Me. Co. H and used them while in that regiment." Drums were important during the war. They provided a way for orders to be communicated over the roar of battle, as well as entertainment. Take a look around, you never know what your local historical society has in their collection.
