Shouting out the Hanging by a Wire Impact Campaign!

One Good Act has platformed the recently released movie Hanging by a Wire, directed by Mohammed Ali Naqvi and produced by Bilal Sami. Today, we wanted to advertise the resulting Impact Campaign.

The students and workers who were trapped in the cable car lived in an area where many lack easy and affordable access to basic services like higher education and a doctor. The Hanging by a Wire Impact Campaign aims to leverage the attention the film drew to bring awareness to these conditions and improve the livelihoods of the individuals in the film. The campaign has two concrete, costed, locally-agreed outcomes: put the students through a recognised technical education, and bring the abandoned Basic Health Unit at Battangai back to life.

On August 16, SPRYNG and PAGS ran a youth business competition at the P**istan Independence Day celebration in the Bellevue Downtown Park. The idea is simple: let kids run a real business for a day. Not a class project. A stall, a product, and real people walking by.

They had to explain what they were selling, take questions, and actually sell their product. That is how they learn whether an idea works, how to market it, and how to improve it. Holding this competition at a community event also enables families and neighbors to observe their work, which matters immensely for confidence.

Judges assessed whether the product works, whether it can grow, how well the kids explained it, and how easy it was for visitors to understand.

1st prize: P**i Fidget Toys. Clear product, easy for people to get, and good potential to grow.

2nd prize: Mehfil Matcha. Strong product, and they explained it well.

Students interested in pursuing a medical career had the opportunity to learn valuable medical skills in this 4-week-long program. We are grateful to our excellent program organizers, Dr. Bilal Malik, Dr. Anjum Anwar, and Dr. Sadaf Bhutta, for leading this educational program!

We are excited to share more about our inaugural SPRYNG Medical Academy program, which we started this summer. The academy is a four-week-long immersive clinical exploration program taught by UW-affiliated medical faculty, designed to give students interested in pursuing a career in medicine valuable knowledge and skills in various areas of study.

Students are participating in interactive lectures, skills laboratories, case-based discussions, emergency simulations, and physician mentorship while exploring a wide range of medical specialties. At the end of the program, we hope students leave with a better understanding of, and deeper passion for, a career in medicine.

We are grateful to Dr. Anjum Anwar, the Course Director, Dr. Bilal Malik, Course Co-Director, and Dr. Sadaf Bhutta for leading the program. Thank you for your efforts to prepare the next generation of medical professionals!

Congratulations to Batul Siddiqui, the inaugural recipient of the SPRYNG Zero-to-One High School Scholarship sponsored by One Good Act x PICACS! 🎉

Batul's winning project exemplifies what this scholarship was created to recognize: young people who identify meaningful problems and build innovative solutions from the ground up.

As the technical lead on the AutoAmbuBag project, Batul helped design and develop a low-cost automated ventilator intended for under-resourced hospitals in P**istan. She engineered software that enables clinicians to control critical ventilation parameters while keeping the design affordable, maintainable, and scalable for real-world deployment. Even more impressive, the project has progressed beyond a prototype through collaboration with The Indus Hospital, with plans for expanded field testing and production.

This is exactly the kind of initiative we hoped to inspire through the Zero-to-One Scholarship: using engineering, technology, and creativity to solve real human problems and create meaningful impact.

Batul will be attending the University of Washington this fall, and we can't wait to see what amazing things she gets up to next.

Congratulations again, Batul, on this well-deserved recognition!
