Why I Golf

The first time I heard us talk about answers to this question, the first thought that crossed my mind was simply “because I can.” As in, is it not obvious and does that not provoke enough thought around the difference between someone living and dying with ALS? If you think it’s too short, I added the obvious:

Because the reality is this: With ALS you will not survive a brutal physical decline. Without physical strength, my friends Augie and Phil had the courage to not go quietly from this world. They chose to make noise about this disease. I play because I can and the objective is clear.

Why I Golf

For Jennifer Green, the answer is rooted in love, loss, and the determination to help create a future free from ALS.

My connection to ALS began with my husband, who was diagnosed in 2018. From the moment of his diagnosis, he became a fierce advocate for elevating the patient voice and advancing progress. He was relentless in bringing people together around a shared purpose—the understanding that we all have one goal: to find a cure.

While he knew he would most likely not live to see that day, he believed deeply that awareness and advocacy were the path forward. He passed in 2025, but I continue this fight in his honor—and in honor of all those families who were not given the time to see a cure realized.
