Newark Science and Sustainability, Inc. Building a Sustainable Newark Our renewable energy programs/projects are geared around solar, wind, battery packs and pedal bike technology.

Newark SAS prides itself on an array of outdoor/indoor learning experiences that allow participants to put theory into practice as well as connect more with nature. We host a variety of educational, hands-on programs around community gardening, ecological building, eco-art, wellness & nutrition education, and clean renewable energy.

For the past three years, Newark SaS and Rutgers Institute for Corporate Social Innovation (RICSI) have demonstrated how lasting impact is achieved when institutions partner with grassroots organizations to create community projects and facilitate meaningful discussions. We are continuing this mission through our annual Sustainable Living Empowerment Conference, which features this year’s theme: Nourishing Newark: Connecting Communities to Sustainable Food Systems.

We invite community leaders, educators, nonprofit organizations, local businesses, students, ecopreneurs, and community members to join us for a morning of learning, collaboration, and action focused on strengthening sustainable food systems in New Jersey.

Today we toured Newark Science and Sustainability, Inc.'s community garden as part of our Enviro Fix in ‘26 program.

With the 2025 gubernatorial election already taking shape, environmental, health, faith, and community advocates came together to demand bold environmental leadership from the state’s next governor.

The Newark event focused on the urgent need for climate action, environmental justice, and community resilience as New Jersey faces worsening floods, extreme heat, and public health threats due to climate change.

We also learned about all of the hard work Newark SAS has put into the garden that provides fresh produce to the local community. The garden is truly a labor of love from the number of herbs and vegetable that it grows to the new chicken coop that is powered by solar energy! 🐔 ☀️
