Brick City Kitties Rescue, Inc.

Brick City Kitties Rescue, Inc. We are a Newark NJ based 501c3 rescue. We TNR and get abandoned cats off the streets, vet & rehome.

BCK Rescue strives to reduce the suffering of homeless cats on the streets through the calculated efforts of TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) for feral cats and in that process rescue the adoptable cats. Instead of returning the adoptable- friendly (not feral) cats to the streets after spay/ neuter and vaccinations they are adopted out. Less cats on the streets reproducing is the humane way to reduce the street cat population and their suffering.

Updates for our cats in this one post because I don’t have time to go update each one but I know some people want to know.

Houdini got his stitches out from his leg amputation and only has to wear his cone one more day…

Brooks was having more mouth pain but not because of teeth. He has no more stomach issues since he was hospitalized a month ago. They did X-rays today and said there’s no issues with teeth. They gave him an anti inflammatory injection and believe his random screaming out and then running could be the nerves in his mouth that are healing and suggested we give him gabapentin for one month until they heal since he had 14 teeth pulled recently. Then, we will bring him back if he’s having anymore issues. Unfortunately, he’s very shy and runs away a lot so he will need to be crated for this. Luckily, I have an indoor catio, which will give him a lot of room to move around and perch and he can watch a big screen television of birds and squirrels and see the other cats because he will miss hanging out in catio and sun room with them.

Nikko has been hospitalized for weeks and they were thinking that he was going to need to be euthanized but his kidneys have improved around 78%, which is awesome. He had a severe infection and in he was also in kidney failure. He will need to remain in the hospital a little longer and will likely end up on special food. That would mean he will lose his ability to free roam because there’s far to many at my rescue to give anyone special food. He won’t be happy because he loves outdoors in the catios.😞

Joe had a big infected hole in his face from something that attacked him outside and his leg was infected too. He was in far worse shape than I thought when I got him. He’s starting to heal up and his infection is clearing. He will be discharged in the coming days, thank God.

Miss Daisy screams in pain and runs from food when she tries to eat despite having an anti inflammatory transdermal gel snd a mass removed, and many teeth pulled because of absorptive lesions. She is scheduled to get more X-rays on Monday, after having her exam last week, to see if any roots were left in her gums. She can’t eat and she’s a tiny cat to begin with. Miss Daisy has been hospitalized 3 times already and Monday if they keep her because they see roots and need to extract it will make 4 hospitalizations for just one of the hundreds of cats under my care.

Carter also has a dental appointment on Monday.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

If anyone has an air conditioner that they aren’t using and would like to donate to the rescue, we can use it. No central air here. The cats ruined one. We bought many air conditioners for the cat rooms and wherever they hang out and we have also replaced a few. This one isn’t old but it’s done. TIA🙏🏽

Looking for affordable vets who do dental work. I’m finding cats are constantly returning with more dental pain after teeth extractions. If you have had good outcomes with cats with stomatitis please comment below. Thanks!!
