Harlem Pride mourns the loss of Kiara St James, Founder and Executive Director of the New York Transgender Advocacy Group. (NYTAG)

Kiara was a visionary leader, a fierce advocate, and a deeply compassionate force within New York City and beyond. Through her work, she created space, safety, and opportunity for transgender and gender non-conforming communities—uplifting voices that too often go unheard and fighting tirelessly for dignity, equity, and justice.

Her legacy is one of courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her people. She did not just advocate for change—she built it, transforming lives and strengthening community in ways that will continue to be felt for generations.

We extend our deepest condolences to her loved ones, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched. May we honor Kiara by continuing the work she championed and by holding close the communities she fought so hard to protect.

Rest in peace and power.
