New Orleans EMS Issues Urgent Call for Blood Donors

New Orleans EMS is urgently encouraging community members to donate blood at community blood drives taking place across the city this weekend. Local blood supplies remain critically low as hospitals and emergency responders continue to care for patients experiencing traumatic injuries, major surgeries, medical emergencies, and life-threatening bleeding.

As home to one of the nation's most active prehospital blood programs, New Orleans EMS witnesses firsthand the lifesaving impact of blood donations. Every unit donated can help save multiple lives and directly supports the healthcare system that serves our community.

New Orleans EMS encourages all eligible donors to participate in one of the following community blood drives:

Friday, June 19, 2026

Silence Is Violence Juneteenth Celebration Blood Drive
West Bank in Algiers – Old Berman Gym
2959 General Meyer Avenue

As Tropical Storm Arthur continues to approach toward Southeast Louisiana, New Orleans EMS along with local and state partners, continue to monitor the impacts it will have to the New Orleans metro area.

Current forecasts indicate that the heaviest rainfall is expected overnight Wednesday into the early morning hours on Thursday. These conditions may lead to localized street flooding and hazardous travel conditions.

We encourage all to avoid flooded roadways, ensure you have all the proper medications, medical supplies and emergency essentials, and to charge your mobile devices, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

📱Sign up for emergency alerts by texting NOLAREADY to 77295 for updates, and continue to follow official City of New Orleans communications for the latest updates.
