"The Parenting Center has been a lifeline during the ups and downs of parenting, a friend-maker, and the perfect bad weather play space. There’s a loveseat in one staffer’s office where I frequently nursed my girls once they were too distracted by the fun in the main playroom. I weaned my younger daughter a few months ago, but when we pass the seat, she still says, “Malk!” I also have come to depend on the free treats in the kitchen: hot coffee for me and apple juice and graham crackers for my girls."

"Thanks to treatment advances in recent decades, about 85% of children diagnosed with cancer now survive five years or more after first being diagnosed – a huge increase since the mid-1970s, when the 5-year survival rate was about 58%, and a uniformly fatal disease before the 1940s.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Manning Family Children’s has the biggest cancer-fighting team in the Gulf South and the most advanced therapies that can be found anywhere – all right here, in our own backyard."

"Dinner is my responsibility, dishes are my responsibility, bath time is my responsibility, then bedtime. It doesn’t matter if I’m sick or don’t feel well. By the time my kids are asleep, I’m usually exhausted. If my toddler wakes up in the middle of the night, there’s no one else to help. Thank God I have a helpful village!
