Louisiana’s future in space is taking off. And STEM NOLA has been preparing the next generation for it for 13 years. 🚀

Even before Louisiana was announced as the future home of a major SpaceX launch site, STEM NOLA was putting rockets in the hands of Louisiana’s children and giving them the opportunity to build, launch, explore and dream bigger.

Because every rocket launched is more than a blast-off. It’s a young person discovering what’s possible. It’s curiosity becoming confidence. It’s a spark that can become a career in engineering, aerospace, science, technology and beyond.

Now, as Louisiana enters a new era of space exploration and innovation, with plans for Starbase, Louisiana, the question isn’t whether our children will be part of the future.

It’s whether we’ve prepared them for it.

Engineering marvels are human-made structures and systems that push the limits of design, physics, and construction to solve monumental challenges. Today marks 70 years since one of those marvels, Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, officially opened, forever changing how South Louisiana connects across the lake. The bridge holds the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous span over water in the world.

The first two-lane span finished ahead of schedule and opened on August 30, 1956. It cost roughly $46 million and took only 14 months of actual building time.

In 2013, the American Society of Civil Engineers designated the structure a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark for its pioneering pre-stressed concrete and mass-production techniques.

Help inspire the next generation of innovators at STEM NOLA's Jefferson Parish STEM Fest on Saturday, September 12!

We’re looking for volunteers to help bring hands-on STEM activities to hundreds of students and families in our community. Join us as we create an exciting day of learning, exploration, and discovery for future STEM leaders.
