Osama helped bring science to life on FOX 8! 🫁📺

STEM Fellow Osama Kheshouei, an 11th grader at Thomas Jefferson High School ( Parish Schools ), took over -TV Fox 8 by demonstrating an inflatable lung model!

Joined by Fox8 news anchor, and STEM NOLA Staff member, Ruqayyah Mustafa, Osama confidently explained how the respiratory system works.

Thank you to Lauren McCoy and FOX 8 for helping make this experience possible and giving our students the opportunity to showcase their knowledge.

We’re excited to see STEM Fellow Osama Kheshouei, an 11th grader at Thomas Jefferson High School for Advanced Studies (Jefferson Parish Schools), take the spotlight on FOX 8 today at 9:40 AM!

Osama will demonstrate a science experiment focused on the respiratory system, bringing biology to life through hands-on learning.

Expanding opportunity through STEM!

STEM NOLA | STEM Global Action is proud to be part of Future 20-55, a new $4 million workforce initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Labor ’s Employment and Training Administration.

Led by CodeCrew, this coalition of five nonprofit organizations aims to help more than 500 people enter technology roles over the next three years, serving communities across the Mississippi Delta and the Memphis and Jackson metropolitan areas.

As part of this initiative, STEM NOLA | STEM Global Action will provide a high school pathway program at training sites, building on our signature STEM Fellows program to help students explore technology careers and prepare for the workforce.

We’re excited to collaborate with CodeCrew , The Bean Path , The Hidden Genius Project, and Ed Farm to bring training, resources, and new opportunities closer to communities across the Mid-South.

At STEM NOLA | STEM Global Action, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to discover their potential and build a pathway toward a meaningful career. We’re proud to be part of this effort to help make that possible!

🚨 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! 🚨 Help students discover the science behind motion!

STEM NOLA is heading to St. Helena Parish for STEM Day: The Force of Friction on Wednesday, October 21, and we’re inviting college students and professionals from New Orleans and the surrounding areas to join us!

Students will build, test, and race hovercrafts while exploring how air reduces friction. Through hands-on physics experiments, they’ll investigate how different surfaces, friction, and gravitational force affect the way objects move.

Your time and support can help students connect STEM concepts to real-world engineering and problem-solving!

🙌 Undergraduate college students receive a $50 digital stipend. Food and transportation are provided.

📍Location: St. Helena Early Learning Center, Greensburg, LA
🗓️ Date: October 21
⏰Time: 5:00 AM (Departure from New Orleans) – 4:00 PM (Arrival back to New Orleans)

We're taking a look back at STEM NOLA STEM Saturday: Hearts & the Circulatory System!🫀

On Saturday, October 10, more than 250 students, parents, and volunteers joined us at Milne Recreation Center to explore the heart and circulatory system through hands-on STEM activities!

From sheep heart dissections and DIY stethoscopes to building mechanical hearts and mini heart pumps, students explored how blood moves through the body. This experience also demonstrated how engineering & technology can develop medical devices used to support the body's systems.

A huge thank you to Ochsner Health Entergy , New Orleans Recreation Development Commission , The City Of NOLA , and NOLA City Council and our friends at T.D. Jakes Foundation and TrainingGrounds, Inc. for their continued partnership.

We’re also grateful to Dr. Shawn McKinney Gerald McKinney, Dr. Yvens Laborde, Dr. Christopher Marrero and the college volunteers who shared their time, knowledge, and passion with the next generation.

This phenomenon is known as the "Jellyfish Effect." It happens when a rocket launches shortly before sunrise. High above Earth, the rocket's expanding exhaust plume catches sunlight while the sky below is still dark, creating enormous, glowing blooms of blue, gold, and pink.

A stronger community starts with collaboration! 🤝💚

STEM NOLA was proud to be represented by Chief of Staff Angèle McClain at the ribbon cutting for The CORE at Clover — the Collaborative of Resources and Empowerment.

The CORE brings community organizations together to connect children and families with resources, services, and opportunities in one place. Through this partnership, STEM NOLA is excited to help expand access to hands-on STEM learning and create more opportunities for young people to explore their potential.

It was an honor to stand alongside like-minded community leaders, including State Representative State Senator Duplessis, Councilmember H. Harris and Congressman A. Carter

Congratulations to New Orleans and Dr. Arnel Cosey on this exciting milestone, and thank you for your continued partnership! We look forward to the impact we’ll make together. 💙

What a day at STEM NOLA STEM Saturday: Hearts & Circulatory System! 🫀

250+ students K-12, parents & volunteers spent the day exploring the science behind the human body and discovering more about healthcare through engaging, hands-on STEM activities.

Most importantly, they had the opportunity to ask questions, meet doctors, and see how what they learn in STEM can connect to real-world careers.

Thank you to Health New Orleans, Orleans Recreation Development, City of NOLA, and City Council for supporting hands-on STEM experiences in our community! We would also like to thank our friends at .D.Jakes Foundation and Grounds, Inc. for their continued partnership.

Together, we’re helping build a stronger and more STEM-ready workforce. 🩺🔬
