Summer Camp is in full swing! πŸŒ±πŸš’πŸ”¬

Day 2 and 3, our campers explored environmental science and engineering through a variety of hands-on STEM activities. Students learned about soil and plant growth by planting their own seeds, then put their problem-solving skills to the test with a submarine challenge and a life vest engineering challenge.

Every activity encouraged students to think critically, experiment, and discover how STEM concepts connect to the world around them.

A special thank you to Delta Utilities for helping us bring these engaging STEM experiences to students and families across New Orleans. Your support is helping inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators! πŸš€

We're excited to welcome this year's participants from the Job1 program to STEM NOLA! πŸš€

Through our partnership with Job1, a workforce development organization dedicated to helping individuals gain the skills, training, and employment opportunities needed for long-term success, students were selected to work alongside STEM NOLA and contribute to our mission of exposing, engaging, and inspiring future innovators.

On June 1, students attended orientation at STEM NOLA headquarters, where they were introduced to our mission, vision, and values. Various staff members shared their roles and experiences, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at the work that drives our impact in the community. Following a tour of the facility, the students jumped right into work, ready to gain hands-on professional experience.

This collaboration is an important investment in the next generation, providing meaningful workforce development opportunities while helping students build confidence, workplace skills, and career readiness. Together, STEM NOLA and Job1 are creating pathways for young people to learn, grow, and prepare for future success. ✨

Please join us in welcoming these students as they begin their journey with STEM NOLA!

Week one of Summer Camp at Xavier University of Louisiana is officially underway! πŸŒŽπŸš€

31 students kicked off the week by exploring environmental engineering and buoyancy through a variety of hands-on STEM activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity.

Our K-2 campers created pollution catchers, rain clouds in a jar, and solar prints, while students in grades 3-8 engineered paper cup anemometers, rocket pinwheels, and rain gauges to learn more about weather, the environment, and the forces that shape our world. πŸ”¬β˜οΈπŸŒ¦οΈ

A special thank you to Delta Utilities for helping make these incredible learning experiences possible for our students this summer!

This is only the beginningβ€”stay tuned to see what our young engineers, scientists, and innovators create throughout the rest of the week. ✨

STEM NOLA was proud to be part of the Sail250 New Orleans International Naval Soccer Cup + Family Fun & Sports Day on May 31, 2026! β›΅πŸš€

As U.S. and international tall ships lined the Mississippi River, students had the opportunity to explore the science behind how vessels stay afloat through a hands-on boat-building activity. Using the principles of buoyancy and density, participants designed and tested their own boats while learning how these same concepts apply to the impressive ships docked along New Orleans' waterfront.

By connecting real-world maritime engineering to hands-on STEM experiences, students were able to see science in action and gain a deeper understanding of the forces that keep boats and ships afloat.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn, build, and explore with us! βš“πŸ”¬βœ¨

K-12 students will explore the principles of force and motion through exciting, hands-on STEM activities at Joe W. Brown Recreation Center on June 13, 2026. Students will learn how force creates motion, apply these concepts to real-world experiments, and build their own grade-appropriate race cars to test and race at the end of the day! πŸπŸ”¬

Big thanks to our event sponsors for helping us bring STEM to the community.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help inspire the next generation of innovators. College undergraduate volunteers will receive a $50 gift card! stemnola.galaxydigital.com
